New tank with LED light

Wow beautiful tank. You've got 1 hydra 52 for every 1.4 ft of tank length. How much greater is that than the AI recommendations?

AI's specs are 1 unit per 2 ft x 2 ft area. 1 per 1.5ft of tank would be 25% more. Because of coverage I do not see anyone getting away with less than 1 per 1.5 ft. I run 2 on my 60 cube to get good coverage. For my 120 upgrade I am planning on 3 with provisions for 4.

IMO - hybrid is better than either T5 or LED only, forget power and bulbs and blah blah etc.... the hybrid is AWESOME! I have a frag that i managed to keep from my old tank that went from blah to PINK, will get some pics when it grows a bit...this is a survivor.

Having gone to the Hydras, as shown in some of your subsequent posts, do you still feel this way? I'm trying to decide between four (five????? God I hope not!) Hydra 52 HDs (arranged in parallel) or two of the 36" ATI PowerModule Hybrid units for 7-footer being built right now (delivery some time in April). Your posts, and fact you have same size tank as mine, have been helpful. I do note, however, that even with 5 Hydras arranged in parallel, it seemed to me that the tank was darker than with the ATI PM hybrid. What is your thought in this regard?

Thanks.

Ken

Been a while since updates, well what a year and rough past few months with this tank but its now finally stable after the crash and on the mend. After the biopellet mishap ive gone back to rowaphos, carbon and siporax in the sump and this combo is working great. I add continuum bac fortnightly and now have Fauna Marin supps for color to play with...have to tinker with something :)

Happy to report all the algae is now gone, its was OVERRUN badly that it looked like a planted tank lol but all clear....anyways here's to a new year and some pics of the corals that survived

Morning shot with just two blue tubes on..

As always.. An amazing scape!
Corals look great as well.
Great to see an update.
The tank will look unbelievable when it all grows out

I'm glad everything is back on track with your tank. Easily one of my favorite scapes I've seen. Excellent job!

Good news mate. Glad you are back on your feet with the tank.
A question on the sera siporax, where did you source them in Australia?
Only place that I found them on was The Tech Den, but they have only the siporax mini.
I have order 2 litres to use before getting another 2 litres more.
My thoughts are to use them in combination of AIO bio pellets - hopefully be less reliance on the AIO bio pellets.
I hope they are better than seachem matrix that I have used in the past.

cheers guys, im glad to get it back on track and back to T5...just need to dump these Pacsun tubes that came with the fixture to ATI tubes.

I had to get them sent over from Germany, had a tub sent over. I did see aquaticsupplies have them but ive never ordered from them.

Glad the reef has recovered from the issues. It looks like some very nice colours are coming through. Just keep it going that way mate

How is the siporax doing for you? How many litres did you buy?
I have just installed 2 mesh bags of siporax mini in my sump area.
Looks pretty well made stuff, like tiny panadol tablet.

New pictures are looking good, glad to hear you turned the corner. I liek the oil comment above ... reefer discovers how to create oil, spends money buying even bigger tank!

Hot damn that reef is filling fast with beautiful pieces Rodney, love all those pretties you snagged today mate.

Rodney,
How is the siporax working for you?
How many litres did you installed in your sump?
Photo of your sump would be appreciated. Thanks.

Couldnt help it, at about $30 a coral they were too good to pass up...its cheaper to get corals than frags for us - now on the lookout for SSC.

Kevin there is a 10l tub of Siporax in the tank, its basically in a container just dumped in. My sump is really simple, has a skimmer section (where the siporax is) and some baffles then a return section (which has rowaphos and carbon reactors). I can get a pic some time for you. So far the system is working well, not sure if its the siporax or just the whole system is stable now. But im happy with it so its staying in.

I should really avoid the LFS, new shipment came in and I just had to pick up a few more pieces :p

These are straight from the foam box at the LFS to my tank, they werent even unpacked yet

Holy mumma those are some nice pieces! I especially love the last one. Obviously it's a bit bleached and stressed from shipping but wow it looks nice.
