New tank with LED light

Hi Rod,

Tanks looks amazing, love the clean design too.

Regarding the lighting, have you noticed the LEDs aren't as bright as MH/T5? Colors look great, but folks like Luc (Large reef tank forum) went back to MH because the LEDs weren't as bright. Curious what you are seeing.

Thanks!
Patrick

sahicharles & meangreeneyes PM me your email ill send through my project

Patrick - its pretty close id say in visual brightness to the old lights, remember though im running 3 Mitras with over 200 LEDs on the tank...with the old illumina with 128 LEDs it was duller than the other lighting

Good job Rodney, thanks for all the pics and analysis of the mitras unit. I am still clinging on to my vertex illumina. I do have color in my sps but I am always wondering what it would look like under the mitras or t5 and since you have tried all 3 and given ati t5 and mitras the thumbs up, I may have to get a mitras in the future.

Keep posting pics because I am following your threads, they are very helpful.

PM sent. Thank you. Absolutely stunning! What are the pink rim/green mouth zoa's called? Haven't seen those locally. I want to have my local lfs hunt them down. lol

Stunning coloration under the new LEDs! Ive been toying with an upgrade for a while now and these are the first set quality photos I've seen under the Mitras. Soon as I hit 10 posts I'll pm you :)

Beautiful pics. Now you have me wanting to change from MH to LED. I'm wondering how many GHL fixtures I would need for a 36x21x21 tank. How has your growth been under the new LEDs?

not sure of the name, maybe watermelons thats what they look like to me anyway lol

the colors and growth im getting are making me at ease with my purchase and jump back to LEDs. So far its comparable to under the ATI PM. I will give an update early in the new year that will be a good solid few months into using this light :)

If I had a 36 I would go with 2 Mitras personally, that would allow SPS anywhere in the tank, great coverage and be a nice bright tank. One I would think would be a bit restrictive with coral placement and not give the nice bright look that 2 would...but doable

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought about the lights. Look forward to seeing many more updates from your tank.

I too am still clinging on to my Illumina 1200. seems as though its upgradeability is limited if compared to this unit.

i get ok color with the Illumina. everything healthy. getting tired of not watching things grow though.

wondering if i should pick one of these up...

86 the Illumina?

Vertex just announced 6 color aux pads due out soon. But who knows what that means with their track record for delivery. Might be worth getting them depending on cost

Thank you...I will definitely have my lfs check into those for me. Thank you as well for the light project...I absolutely love it. I've had a great growth spurt on my Ora Pearlberry frag that I got at my local frag swap a couple weeks ago. Had a little brownout issues with 3 frags which was my error with the lights so I'm refusing to take pics until they have their color back. At that point I have an amazing local photographer that I'm going to ask to take pics.

I'd love to have 2 fixtures, but I am extremely happy with the spread that this light gives so far. I have zero dark spots. Eventually, if I start having issues I will definitely get a second. I'm beyond pleased so far though. Please continue to document your beautiful tank! :)

Everything looks stunning! The coloration, growth, response...everything! I can not believe how fast my coral is reacting/growing under this light. My Ora Pearlberry and purple tabling acro (don't have a specific name and not a name junkie) have both had big growth spurts in the short amount of time I've had them/the lights. Best tank investment that I've ever made. Just want to thank you for documenting your growth under the Mitras. You were the reason I was pushed over the edge in buying them. My friend's still think I'm nuts, nobody has seen my tank since. lol I'm going for the shock factor in a few weeks. They're severely underestimating these lights. I've had a little...ok...lots of fun trash talking their lighting as well. lol
