Newbie seeking advice

Hi Everyone,

We've been working a bit on getting this tank ready...We think that we are in the final stages of set up. We're working on the plumbing set up now.

Anyone see any glaring mistakes, oversights, or concerns before we glue up the PVC/couplers and add water?

We appreciate any advice...

Thanks,

Tamzy

Looks nice. I have read that it can be tough when you don't have access to the tank from the front. I know you have access from behind but stacking your rocks and placing corals just how you want them can be tricky from behind. You'll need or want 2 people for that so you can get them just perfect ;)

Welcome and I look forward to your build....

Looks nice to me! Just make sure you have access from the tank from the front. Stacking rock, cleaning the glass, and especially gluing coral is going to be very hard from the back of the tank. Other than that it looks great...

Welcome to STRS!! Looks like a good set-up. I'm sure we all will agree that access from the front is critical. Only thing I see is that you might want to support the Spa Flex with plastic strapping, when that stuff is full of warm water, over time it will sag. Also, unsupported, it transfers all the weight of the water in the hose to the rigid connections. The strapping is available at Home Depot or Lowes. Comes in a roll about 3/4" wide and probably 20' long, with holes in it for the drywall screws, and its cheap.

Wow, that's my old 125 isn't it? For newbies, you guys sure are a quick study. The set-up looks awesome!! Glad to see it will put to excellent use. I have another replacement part for the G-3 skimmer for you that will be very important. Before you go out and buy live rock and corals, be sure to check this forum first. There are several here who can hook you up.

Thank you everyone for your replies. We appreciate it. Unfortunately we won't have access from the front...oops! We really liked the idea of the tank being in the wall with all of the equipment tucked away in the room behind, but never stopped to think about accessing it from the front. :eek1:Hopefully we can find a way to work around that..I guess time will tell.

We did get those support straps for the spa flex...good idea, thanks.

Hi Jerry! Yes this is your old 125! We went back and forth about keeping it in the stand, but then had all of this great space in our basement to create a whole fish room so we went for it. Now that the room is finished we can FINALLY get some water circulating! Hopefully this weekend.

We will absolutely check here first for live rock and frags..we are excited about being active members in this reef community.

BTW when I say "we", I mean my husband and I....I don't want anyone to think I have Multiple Personality Disorder or anything LOL!!

Good call on losing the cabinet and canopy. You are very fortunate to have such an ideal spot to build in the tank. That fish room looks awesome. You even have a water supply right there. I look forward to seeing water and life in that tank. Nice job on the plumbing and sump BTW. You still could fairly easily cut out a couple of areas for access doors in the front above the tank and frame them in. Thats what we did at the zoo (actually, we have one big door above the tank) and it works well. Just working from behind isn't impossible but it will definitely pose some challenges. Just sayin....:)

Yes welcome to STRS. Although this is a small group compared to others you will find a wealth of info on here. The reefers on here are some of the best and it shows in there tanks. Don’t be shy here, most of the time you can avoid many pit falls by asking here first especially before trying or doing something that cannot be un done easily or undone at all. Nice looking setup. Good luck
