hi people,
well, i'm a newbie to this hobby so i just wanted some opinions of my setup. i'm thinking big but i'm planning on starting up small. what i found interested in is going all-out sps bb. how bout' that? :)

#1 item kent marine ro 24gpd/tfc membrane
1. tank size- 29 or 37gal
2. megaflow sump model 1
3. 250w reefstar 10k
4. aquac ev120 w/jg mag5 skimmer
5. cpr overflow cs90

please, any opinions will be looked into. the skimmer is my main thought. since i don't own my own home, i don't wanna think about moving situations. i do plan to eventually going 90gal w/built-in overflow though. thanks to my friend pha for all the research.

it is pretty small for your first tank you may want to go with a 55 gal. also you need a lot of flow.

oh yeah, i was wandering what type of powerhead to get, and how many. on the issue of going 55, i don't like that size. i rather go 40 breeder or 50gal.

A 40g breeder tank would make a great tank, IMO. It has better dimensions for aquascaping.

I have the Koralia powerheads, which I'm pleased with. Others like Tunze or Seio powerheads. You should look to get around 20x per hour flow in the tank.

my new tank is a 40 gal breeder. good luck finding a stand though. I have a vortech pump for flow.

for lighting I have a aquatinics fixture in the mail

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to lighting tanks. :) Some prefer halides, some T5's and so on. Come up with a list of corals you want to keep. Be specific. Then, design your lighting scheme based upon the inhabitants you want to keep. I would go with the 40 breeder if you can. Really nice size tank. I have two Tunze Nanostream 6025s in my tank. If you are planning on SPS plan on doing at least 30x turnover minimum. I'd shoot for 40x, imo. ;)

I agree with drummereef...if your going SPS the more indirect chaotic flow the better, since your going BB that shouldnt be hard at all. 2 koralia 4's hid in the rocks well will give you about 50x turn over and would be great IMO

I chose T5 becuase electricity in CA isn't getting any cheaper. I don't wan't to run a chiller more than i have to.
