NewDosing Pump Setup

With the Help of John I have switched from a Ca Reactor to Litermeter III dosing pumps. John Thanks Much for the Help! We did it 3 days ago and I have 3 pumps, but only hooked up pumps for Alk and CA. I will probably setup the third pump for Mag, but no hurry. It's only been 3 days so it's hard to tell if it's working better than the Ca Reactor. I have been testing every day and slowly adjusting the pump rate. i did adjust from 50 ml of Alk and Ca to 100 yesterday as they had both dropped quite a bit over night.

My reason for the change is I felt the CA Reactor ( Korallin 1502) was hard to keep a consistent drip and bubble count. When I would turm off the main pump which feeds the reactor the bubble count would change and the drip was always changing. This was confirmed when I would test. It just wasn't consistent enough. I also found it extremely difficult to adjust the bubble count. The slightest turn of the valve on the CO2 would change the bubble count too much.

Bye the way the pumps are great. You don't run them from a controller. you calibrate them and set the amount you want to dose on a daily basis and the pumps dispense the amount over 24 hours. There is no option to set how much is dispensed at a given time. Very simple I really like them. I wish I had made this change some time ago!

Glad they are working for you. Truth be told - I still own mine as well. If I'm going to dose, it'll be with litermeters. Simply the best imo.

Sean thanks for reccomending them to me! I do like the way you told me how you were using a med grade pump for the Ca Reactor and a good regulator. The drip and the bubble count are hard to keep dialed in with the stock ones that came with the Korallin I bought. I think I've had it for 8 years or more and should have upgraded both.

What two part are you guys using? I have a Neptune apex DOS I am about to setup but need to order some alk and cal. I was thinking I would just do the brs two part and maybe even run some kalkwasser in my ato but if someone has a recommendation I am open to trying something else.

Why don't you just dose your 2 parts?
it is much clearer what you have to dose and is one less thing that you need to handle.

my personal preference/suggestion for the salts to use (where you buy it doesn't matter too much as long as you buy salts without inpurities)
- CaCl2 x2H2O for Ca
- a mix of 90 weight% NaHCO3 and 10% Na2CO3 for Alk and keeping ph stable.
- both of it in any concentration you like not above the Max. fesaible concentration mixed in ROI water. eg 90g/Liter of the mix for the Alk solution is close to perfect,

Martin,

I am dosing 2 part with Litermeter III dosing pumps and we buy the products from Bulk Reef Supply. Are you saying something different?

I am not understanding your post.

I use the BRS products. Soda ash for alk and calcium chloride for the CA. It's possible to go cheaper but to me the hassle is just not worth it.

I dose via the BRS pumps controlled via Apex. It's more complicated than the LiterMeter but I like the control.

My biggest issue is forgetting to refill the supply jugs!

I wouldn't do kalk with 2 part. Some dose kalk with calrx to offset the lower ph most calrx tanks run at.

I dose Kalk while balling, but I only use it to keep the pH of my top off water high. Its not enough to actually contribute to the dosing of Cal/Alk to the tank.

what brand do you recommend for balling
I been looking at some videos and it looks like something I may want to star doing
just want to compare some brands

I use aquaforest 123 in the pre-made 5L containers. But you can also buy each component separate and do your own mix of elements. I also know fauna marin has a balling components but I've never used them before.

Mike,

So you are running 4 dosing pumps the 3 for the AquaForest 123 and one for Kalk? If I end up do the balling metod the Litermeter III can run up to 4 pumps the one in main unit and 3 more. What dosing pumps do you use?

All seems to be going well 1 week into dosing. I have been testing every day and have hit 420 or so on CA and 1320 Mag. I'm still a little loe on ALK 116 ppm or just under 7 dkh. Im increasing the alk a little and leaving CA alone for now. I think Im close on the dosing amounts. I will probably need to add a little Mag tomorrow. Corals are looking good. Happy with the results so far

Noticed any difference in polyp extension or colors or anything?
