Newest Acquisition: Two Xenojulis margaritaceus Wrasses

The larger one looks very nice, congrats.

Unfortunately, I suspect the color change on the smaller one is due to health issues, rather than anything resembling sexual dichromatism.

I just thought I'd give an update nearly 1.5 years later...

The larger one is still doing awesome...such an amazing fish! It's the most shy fish in my tank, although it is one of the larger ones. I had a problem with it nipping my clam for about a week...until I realized I wasn't feeding the tank enough. Once I upped my feedings, it stopped nipping. It's never gone after any of my inverts (including various shrimp, snails, or crabs).

The little one passed away - it stopped eating entirely, regardless of the food.

I managed to find another tiny one yesterday in great health, so I hope to introduce her soon. She's currently in QT and is doing great! I'd love to get a mated pair of these!

I just scored one of these today. An LFS I don't go to often as it's rather far away had one in, also labeled as a green coris wrasse, and only $36. It was pretty obvious to me it was not a green coris, even though the girl at the LFS insisted. I didn't know what it was but it ate frozen mysis greedily at the store and looked clean so I took a chance on it. It's going in my 260 FOWLR with a small red coris and a melanarus as the other wrasses. I was pretty sure based on body type and appearance that they wouldn't have a problem with each other. I was a little nervous it might be a juvenile maori of some type and get really big, but I'm glad to see it maxes out at about 10 cm, and I suspect less in captivity.

It's just a beautiful fish - green with pink lines on the face and pink striations and the fins, plus white marbling on the sides. Green fish are actually pretty uncommon outside of mean thalassomas, so that adds to the appeal. I've got a nice sandbed for him to spend his nights in, so I look forward to getting him in the DT.
