Does anyone have a copy of Microsoft Publisher I can "borrow?" I'm trying to put the newsletter together using some of the old graphics, verbage etc... Help me out so I can get this thing finished. I thought Word would suffice.... I'd like to do better.

Steve,

The club used to have a copy of Microsoft Publisher for printing the newsletter. Maybe someone reading this might have an idea where it is!

I have an old version of Publisher Steve can have. It must be a newer version than the club's. There is also a free trial of the 2007 version at

http://www.microsoft.com/office/getit/default.mspx

I think it's free for 60 days.

I've got a copy of Office 2003 with publisher you can "borrow". I could bring it to the frag swap.

Publisher 2003 should be OK. An entire Microsoft Office suite with Publisher included more than likely won't work for what I need. I just need a publishing program so I can import digital pictures, graphics, and arrange things on a page to publish a newsletter. If the club has a copy... I'd sure like to know of it's whereabouts. I have a newsletter 90% complete. However, I'm having a very difficult time transferring the document by email to any recipient because of the file size. Help! PM me if you have a suggestion. I've tried to zip files, compress pictures to 96 per inch resolution, send one page at a time etc......

I spoke with Mike Canterbury about this. We are looking into having Paul at 1st Class Aquatics post the newsletter onto the website and simply emailing a link to that newsletter to members with an email address on file. I left Paul a voice mail. I'm still stuck with using Microsoft Word to create the newsletter. The acronym PITA comes to mind. I looked at Microsoft Publisher 2007. That program would certainly suffice. I would register the program as C-SEA so it can be transferred to another Editor. I also looked at Adobe Professional version 8. 700+ dollars and this huge program is overkill. Anyone have a suggestion for an alternate publishing program? I think Microsoft Publisher is the best choice given the bang for the buck factor.

There's a free software that installs as a printer driver and when you choose to print to the correct printer it creates a PDF file (the smallest and most commonly used document format)
It is called PRIMO PDF and is available here.

PDF actually stands for Portable Document File. If it is posted on the website in its current format we will use lots of storage space on the server and it will end up using lots of transfer usage per month. If you host the PDF file on the website you can leave all of them there and they are very small.

Since it is small the file can be attached to a bulk email or you could just send a bulk email with a link inside that goes back to the PDF on the website.

The old newsletter was always sent out as a PDF and if you use this software you can create it in any program you like but just print the newsletter to a PDF file on your hard drive.

Kevin,

Thanks for the info. I still need to create the document before saving it as PDF. Thus I'll need a software package to accomplish that. I'm downloading the pdf freeware now.

Kevin,

I used the PDF program. That solved the problem with the size of the file being emailed. I still need microsoft publisher to write the next one. Word is painful.

I'll pm you with my phone number. I'd like to send you a draft copy to get your input.

Chris the former editor should have the club's copy of publisher.
John

John,
They have been saying at the meetings how hard it is to get ahold of Chris. She stopped doing the newsletter in October and hasn't been to any meetings that I can remember since then.

I don't know if anyone lives near Chris or is friends with her but it would help Steve to get that copy of publisher back.

Her phone number is still on the c-sea.org officers page so I wonder if anyone has tried that.
