Nick's 225G Deep Sea Aquatics Project - FINISHED (almost)

Your set up is so well thought out and I love the idea of the second sump for the skimmer- gets old dealing with the issues about water level and micro bubbles you stated. Tank looks awesome so far, can't way to see growth pics.

Extremely well thought out setup Nick and DSA makes a solid tank, I love mine. I will enjoy watching this one grow.

Roger, it isn't going backwards, it is a very good upgrade, MP40 does 3200 gph, 6255 does 4800 gph in an even wider flow. It is a beast of a pump that should perform very well on this tank.

Did I miss something in the thread. Why are you going backwards?

Lol. I gave the Vortechs a chance and they are just not for me. I've been running a single MP40 for about a year on my old tank and upgraded to a second for my new tank. There are a couple of reasons I'm switching.

- Impossible to perfectly align the wet and dry sides. (Deal Breaker) These things will always be slightly out of balance and have wobble. It is such a pain trying to move these things around the tank and 'tune' them. Cleaning the wetsides becomes a dreaded task.

- The dryside sticks out a little to far on the outside of the tank. This is a problem for me b/c one of the sides of my tank is right next to a doorway. I don't want to have to worry about accidentally knocking into it or having a kid pull on it.

- Too noisy. (Deal Breaker) The tank is in my bedroom and I'm sick of hearing the constant whirr of the motors. Nutrient export mode is unbearable. My tank is virtually silent with the exception of my MP40's.

- Not enough flow. (Deal Breaker) I thought twin MP40's would be enough flow for my tank, but I am actually pretty disappointed. I can barely generate a wave in a 6' tank and at full blast there is only moderate flow. I know there are MP60's, but I'm really not interested in the vortech line at this point in time. Two MP40's = 6400 GPH. Two 6255's = 9600GPH. Yes I know 6255's cost more so this is not really a fair comparison.

- WXM is a pain in the butt. My apex is great and easy to update, but the WXM is really just a pain to deal with. Anyone who has ever tried to upgrade a WXM or vortech knows, it is a process. So much easier to to just plug the powerheads into a variable speed port!

The only flaw I see with the Tunze is that is may be considered unsightly, but that is not a big deal to me. Also they need their own controller, but if you already have an Apex you are set.

Great 225 build! I am in the planning phase of my build and was wondering if you were pleased with the Deep Sea Aquatics 225 tank, build quality, and dimensions? The length and width look great is the height an issue for you?

I love the dimensions of your tank. I hate mine. Always getting my shirts wet when I clean or have to place corals into the system.

Is this a PVC or Glass bottom? Also what color is the silicone? It seems white on the bottom and clear on the edges of the glass.

About to place an order for a DSA and will be running a bare bottom as yourself.

Thanks

John
