Love them clownfish.
i had just completed a 45 gallon water change, wiped everything down and was enjoying the view when i noticed my lone nigripes aggressively cleaning the rotating nozzle of the nearest sea swirl. at first i was inclined to think she was just eating off it, but it soon became obvious her cleaning was unmistakably prespawning behavior. her abdomen was swollen, she was relentless, even her ovipositor was out. she was making dry runs over the side of the pipe as well.
but there is no male nigripes present.
i didnt think anything would come of it, until a few hours later i came to find a handful of little red eggs on the nozzle.
she spawned on a moving object with...herself!
anyways, i dont recall ever hearing about a similar event and thought i would share. i think the fact that she chose the moving nozzle of my sea swirl over the smooth rocks at the base of her magnificas to be the most fascinating part about all this.
i need a male....STAT!
