No more Frogspawn?

If this is old news, my apologies for being slow but...

I was told yesterday that Frogspawn (Euphyllia paradivisa and divisa) are now (as of November) on the endangered list as per CITIES and will no longer be offered in the trade. So if you got a colony, take good care of it.

I'm susprised because I find Euphyillia species to be very hardy which adapt well to most water/lighting conditions making them one of the easiest species of coral to keep.

I think they were pushing for them to be listed but as far as I know it never passed so no you can still get euphyllia sp.

I haven't seen any stores yet that "don't" carry frogspawn? and still continues to be on the wholesale lists that i've seen.

if it hasn't happened yet. it is only a matter of time. I think I remember seeing you can't import it into europe. could be wrong about that. either way you will still be able to get cultured corals. So it won't be impossible to get.

PW has a small tank full of Euphyllia colonies with a price of $200 each. The guy running the coral section said it took him by surprise, but the most recent whoesale price had shot up. When I asked what happened I was told that stores will soon not be able to get any more due to frogspawn and such being placed on the CITES endangered list.

I've always found PW to be reputable so I took the man at his word. If I'm mistaken... mea culpa.

I didn't buy any, I was just passing on the "info." Anyone know if it's true or not? Andy? Bueller?

The sky isn't falling yet. Here is a link to http://www.reefthreads.com/. Listen to podcast 112. Hawaii and a many countries have been proposing bans on coral and fish imports for a few years. The podcast explains what NOAA is trying to do. It will be awhile or maybe never before frogspawn stops appearing. Listen to the entire podcast:fish1:
