No polyp extension

yea i also have a huge yellow kenya tree, medium size green nepthia, and med size toadstool all on the lower portion of my tank that I have had from the beginning and hesitate to let go.

Anyone know of issues related to leaters and SPS.... I have heard of this can anyone confirm...

I run carbon 24/7 changing it every 2 weeks. I would think that would prevent any leather problems.

great, I got a devil's finger too. Could I have any more anti-sps organisms!...

LOL, at least I don't feel so alone any more... :)

My PO4 and NO3 are both undetectable by Hach and Salfert kits, respectively. I dont think its the phosphate.

My idea with the kalk is that since you have to refill it every once in a while, and you usually dose it at night, and the corals only grow during the day, you might have some pretty significant fluctuations in Ca and Alkalinity, hence the advantage of a Ca reactor.

bkv1997 - the link you posted was for a Green Clown Goby, where Micki has a Yellow Clown Goby.

I have no idea if the Goby is the problem in this tank, but I have personally seen Yellow Gobies nip Acro polyps in 2 different tanks. It has been reported ONLY the Yellow ones nip. (I will say, the ones I saw nip weren't shy about it....they would do it while you were standing there watching them)

Wish i could catch the F. Angel.
Here's what you do.....take a piece of four inch tubing, start a siphon...:D

I'm starting to believe. I removed my bi-color blenny from the tank two days ago and I'm beginning to see polyp extension during the day on my monti's. Not bushy like some I see on this site but definitely more extension than before. I'll keep watching for a few more days and repost results.

Well, believe it or not... I removed the yellow clown goby a few days ago, and I'm starting to see some polyp extention tonight. I'm actually seeing a few tiny ones blow in the water flow. I'm hoping this was the problem.

my coral beuty teurned into an SPS nipping monster and all my polyps were closed. i could follow him around the tank and he has this pattern that he follows while searching for food and corals in his route were all closed. After a major ordeal I took him out and put him in the sump and within two days all my polyps were open. i would defintely take all the angels and gobies out before i ruled that out as a possiblity.

Well, I'm going to watch the other two before I tear the tank down trying to get them. If I can see that as the problem they will come out.

Keep me updated if you guys start to see a significant increase in the polyp extension over the next few days, after removing the angels/blennies.

I checked last night and had nice PE at night but little to none during the day. I have a coral beauty and a chevron tang. I am now thinking it could be one of those two. I had great PE until about last November and fish have been in the tank a long time.

0 nitrates/phospates- salifert
430 ca
8.2 dkh
1.026 Sp Gr
8.2 ph

Same flow etc as had previously when PE was good.

I removed my yellow clown goby and thought I saw more PE. However, it wasnt' much and isn't anymore. I am upgrading my skimmer tomorrow in hopes that will help. Going from ASM G-3 to ASM G-4X

I think it was my eyes playing tricks! LOL Really I still get a "tiny" PE on "some" SPS but not much.

I had some polyps come out the other day, but I really dont know why, I didnt do anything... I still think its a response to planktonic food in the water, but that just moves the cause, doesnt answer what's different in my tank thank others.

I'm making my own phyto as we speak. It will be ready tomorrow night. I'll start using that in a day or two and see if that makes any difference.

I think the SPS like stuff more on the zooplankton size. I noticed mine dont really respond much to phyto (though it was bottled, so perhaps you'll have some zoo in there as well) I've had some success with DT's oyster eggs. There seems to be some chemical trigger that causes them to open. Just whatever other people have, I seem to lack...

most of mine do grow, though not very fast. Most of the acros stay brown too, and dont show much color. my lps and softies do well and show nice color, go figure... :)
