No serious reefer should have a tank without this!

Nice if you are lazy. It would drive me crazy to have that on the tank 24/7. I don't leave my algae cleaning magnet on the tank. I clean, and remove it right away.

Yeah. I am all for technology. But I feel because I am in fact a serious reefer, that part of being serious is doing the work and enjoying it. Everyone these days want to automate everything from water changes to feeding to monitoring parameters.
Too much for me. I clean, I feed, I test- if I wanted just something to watch with no maintenance I will just turn on the tv.

I guess none of you go on vacation. That's like saying, i wouldn't get a skimmer, I'll just change water more frequently, or no need for calcium reactor, I'll just manually add, or no need for a reefkeeper or whatever computer, I'll just dose myself. It's just another toy to add to the hobby. I'd bet once you get one you'd never look back!

It's a cool toy to have, but for today its not required and it's not for me until I see how it performs with star fire glass. Will it pick up sand and scratch my glass?

Nice headline though - for someone who doesn't even have the product - you must work in digital marketing or be a copy writer of some sort.

I don't use a reefkeeper, no calcium reactor, no computer.
I go on vacation plenty. I usually do a water change before I go and when I come back.
I perform water changes every week and run GFO - no issues. My water parameters are always in check. no need for computers or automated glass cleaners.

This is nice, but it goes pretty close to the substrate..makes me nervous it would catch a rock and slide back up scratching the glass...maybe im just paranoid

No, I'm a cardiovascular imaging engineer. I work on cardiac, vascular, neurology digital imaging medical equipment as well as mammography, bone density, and Xray equipment. I would definitely get one assuming it works as advertised. I do a fair amount of traveling and it would come in handy.

How long in the hobby? Just curious.

since 98. I started with FOWLR and have slowly been upgrading since. Unfortunately, my job has moved me too many times and I've had to start over.
I will admit that I have never kept SPS, and if I did, I might change the way I think.
All that said, I like the manual work. To me it's part of the hobby. Spending some time each day working on the tank, testing water parameters, water changes.
Maybe I don't embrace change enough - who knows.

Cool, I can respect that. yeah i had a 100g full blown sps tank back in the days, the every day stuff for me is what I dislike most about the hobby. Once you start the hobby, you can't take a break for extended time especially with sps. Automation for me!

I agree. Back in the day there were no airbags in cars either. Technology is here to help those who need it!

I'm not sure I would even say it's a cool toy. I consider it next to useless. Just how hard is it for you to wipe down the glass in your tank? And to say that no serious reefer should be without it is just... :headwally:

Oh, and like MikeyAl, I don't see the need for a lot of automation and I go on vacation quite often. I even own an Apex with lots of extras and I don't see much point in even setting it up (got it for free or I wouldn't even have it). I consider selling it, but then think maybe I should give it a try. Then I say, what's it going to do for me? And my answer is, not much!

Why would you care if your glass is clean while you are on vacation? Haha in all seriousness though, it's a cool idea, but just not worth it. Having a big docking station and magnet on your tank 24/7 would be more displeasing than having dirty glass IMO. They are noisy and at least the original design could only clean one pane of the glass. Id rather spend that money on something that benefits the tank, dirty glass is purely aesthetic.
