North Dakota Mini-Ocean

The cheto is doing its job by trapping the detritus, you don't want to shake it up because you just put it back into the water column. the cheto is actually breaking down the detritus, well not the cheto but the organisms that live within the cheto use the detritus as food, and then the cheto takes up the left over phosphate and nitrate.

another thing, it looks like you finally got the door on, and the entry way cleaned out. I bet the wife is happy about that. We had been meaning to do that for a while.......haha

That is one wicked mosaic!

Not wrong, it's 'fully sick' !

Reefaquriumnut, Great tank ! Talking about the butt falling out of alk and ca, my reactor ran out of gas and it took me a couple of days before I noticed ... in the meantime alk dropped from 12.5dKh to 7.39dKh and Ca fell to 370ppm from 400ppm :sad2: fortunately no losses.

Tone :D

Hey Dave,
Your corals are starting to get big!
Just wondering if you would recommend buying a proflux? Do you use everything it is capable of doing? I am thinking about buying one but also looking a a much cheaper controller, the new apex.

Well, think about NOT shaking it up. :) Since it has done a job (removing detritus from the water column), maybe just clip out chunks with a scissors. That's what I did, and you may find quite a few mysid shrimp within as well. I always tried to return the shrimp to the fuge, but remove chaeto and the detritus. PITA I know, but it's that attention to detail that gets the job done! And you thought this hobby would be easy??

Why? Shake the ball up and release all the detritus and siphon it out. No reason why all the detritus should remain within your tank.

reefaquariumnut, awesome tank!

Well I thought I would give a few updates on the tank since my hiatus ;-)

The tank is literally running itself now. Just a little food every other day and kalk every other to every third day. Some corals have grown very well and some have completely changed colors. no loss of any fish in past couple months. I still have most of the equipment in standby mode, but I've added another three 6205's and two 6305's. That brings the total to 10 tunzes in the tank all running 24-7-365 at 100%.

I have no interest in adding more fish or coral at this time. I might add some in couple months once I have time to put all the equipment back online and the frags are ready to get placed in front of tank...most of the frags are very close.

I haven't tested a level in 3 months so I just use my sight to measure the tanks quality of life. I will try ti get some pictures up soon.
