Well my tank is doing awesome! The corals are really coloring up since i put the DeNitrator on the system and the tunzes are creating great PE. I am going to buy a frag of everything Keeperz has in his tank and I am talking to another guy to get me a gem tang for a sweeeeeeet deal. The money he is saving me will allow me to buy some other rare fish too.
Just taking a break from the hobby. I have health issues that make it difficult for me to give my reef the proper attention it needs. Unfortunately, much of what I have is too large for the average reef-keeper's tank.
Nice to see other people in N.D. spending way too much on aquariums.
Do you have a stand by generator for a power outage? I recently purchased a propane powered 17000 watt generator that will start on it's own when the juice fails. I pretend it is for my family since we are on a farm, but when it is wired in... I think my fish room will have priority. I haven't had a chance to read your whole thread... but from what I have read...my oh my.
I really would like to hear more about that. Especially on how you deal with system alarms while away, electrical outages, and the GUi itself. How easy it is to use, etc.
The main room is a 11L x 9W x 8T that has green drywall throughout to help with water and humidity. It also has 5' of upper and lower cabinets to help with storage. Also, it has a 9000sf pool air exchanger to help combat humidity. lighting in the room consists of recessed cans.
The 600 display was built by Midwest Custom Aquariums 98W x 48D x 30T. It has two overflows with 3 drains in one and 2 drains in the other. The bottom has what was termed "spider" legs...but I am changing them to "ant" legs. The tank stand was made from 1" tube steel that was coated with black marine paint.
The sumps consist of 3 seperate sections all tied together. One of the sumps under the tank also has a small refugium section with a 4" DSB and a very small section that almost acts like a algae turf scrubber. The other section under the tank is wide open and houses around 100 pounds of LR to buffer bubbles and help with the bioload.
RO is made by a 75GPD 9-Stage Unit. It has 3 stages of pre-filtering and 6 stages on the unit.
The tank started out with a Volcano Skimmer, Calcium Reactor, Phosphate and Carbon Reactor, and Kalk Reactor. I have since removed all of them and replaced with Bubble King Super Marin Skimmers, Geo Calcium and Kalk Reactors, and a Next Reef Monster Dual Media Reactor.
The Plumbing was done with Sch 80 Grey. 2" for the drains and 1 1/2" for the return powered by a Barracuda. The returns into the tank also have a 1" SeaSwirl attached to help with randome flow. There is also a CL with and OM-4 powered by a Barracuda
The tank started with 6-6201's and now has 4-6305's and 3-6201's and 2-6205's. 6 of them are hidden in black boxes around the tank.
The rock that was used was dry Eco-Rock from Bulk Reef Supply. I used a combination of Fiji and Tabling rock.
Lighting is 6-400W IceCap Ballasts with Radiums. I bought a lighting track that is mounted to the ceiling and allows easy access to the tank and allows lighting to be moved around from side to side with rollers that hook into the track. I started out with just rope to mount the lights and just recently added a more adjustable chain system.
