After over an hour of reading I must say that you have a great setup and I hope the best for all your corals and fish. I do have a few questions though,

What do you dose besides using calcium reactors?

What do you use for flow? I did see the tunze controller on the wall but anything else or just returns?

Thanks

-Matthew

Hey Matthew I dose mag, strontium and kalkwasser. I tried to just use the calcium reactor for suppliment but everthing fell behind. I have four tunze streams and two 1" seaswirls for returns and one of my big skimmers dump in the sps vat as well. Quite a bit of current. I think I calculated out to be about 10000 gallon flow:D

I have really seen some improvement in all around PE and color since I have gotten back on the water test routine. This time of year is also good as the summer sun intensity isnt far off:D The mangrove have been a total success . Here is a pic of the extras I stuck in the sump

stuff is so exspensive

thanks Liz. Here is just one more reason why things arent always cost effective. Dont you hate it when you have to replace a 250$ membrane. Sitting by my truck for scale

got rid of my eggcrate....

got rid of my eggcrate....

Well some of it anyway. I decided to get rid of one of my eggcrate platforms. I built this new one out of 3/4 pvc filled with sand and d.i. water. I drilled holes in the pipe every three inches and offset the holes on every other one. I have noticed massive flow increase.

This pic shows how the wave action is . The drip line you see is my calcium reactor return line. Look close and you can see the wave.

I was pondering the idea of adding four tunze wave boxes :D Tax return;) I know I wil have to drop my vat water level but the current upgrade will be worth it. Even with four streams and two seaswirls I still have dead spots.

Doug,
Have you tried the OM 4 way with the Revolution nozzles? These things index a few degrees every time they fire, and would no doubt get flow into all the nooks and crannies. Not too obtrusive either.

They have a collar which floats up, then when the flow starts again, pushes the collar down, indexing the next tooth inside, and thus pivoting the nozzle several degrees.

I forget if you are using eductors on your return pump, but this could could be added to your existing return pump to direct the water more reandomly.

No but I wish I lived on the west coast:cool: My hobby would be so much easier. I do have my chemicals in check and here comes the summer. My chiller is due for a check-up right now . The only problem is that if its not hot outside it wont function properly and you cant charge the freon correctly? The plus of the tunzes is they are plug and play;) A four way will require some plumbing. I can do it but I have always wondered about the boxes. I tried multiple wave2k's and they worked great until they stopped. Basically im trying to find simple way to succeed:cool:

It should only need gas if some leaked out. Definitely lube the fan motor and keep the condenser coil fins clean. Shut all the power off and recheck all the electrical connections too. Other than that it should be fine.

If it needs to be charged it on a cold day, any refer mechanic should charge it according to the temperatures and superheat, so that it will still perform correctly on a hot day.

Chris sorry for the post change but thanks for the advice on the chiller;) I did notice some oil on some of the flared fittings so it caused me some concern:)

got rid of the egg-crate

Got tired of the algae that comes along with styrene egg-crate so....I scrapped it and built a new rack out of good old pvc
