DIY Fanatic
Hi Guys, I'll be hosting our November meeting.

Fall Frag Raffle
Our massive Fall frag raffle. Last year we had 20+ Items raffled off! Some great frags and items changed hands!

Please post here if you want to donate to this raffle. I'll be providing a bunch of collector quality SPS. Some I have yet to frag - including the Red Dragon!

Logistics:
Sunday, July 15th
Location: 10 Pine Hill Avenue Extension, Norwalk CT 06855
Time: 3 to 5 pm.

I will donate frags from the green bali slimer and the other 3 sps shown. I have some massive "frags" already from the purple sps.

Bad photos, but these are nice and fast growing.

I'll be there for this one. The only thing I have to donate is your old GSP that I fragged up. It's mat is an inch thick and I've got three pieces left.

Oops, I meant November 17th :) At least it's correct in the title!

G - those acros are looking awesome!

Can't wait to see everyone!

OK - I'm finally ready to frag some of the corals in my ittty bitty tank. Sorry about the bad pics, but I'll bring...

Everyone's favorite coral that they love to hate - Green Star Polp
IMG_3515_edited-1.jpg

A small frag of Tyree Sunset Monti, a great little encrusting coral.
IMG_3519_edited-2.jpg

An ORA Stuber Staghorn Acro that IMO needs more light than where i have it in my tank. It's encrusting, but the main branch has not changed one bit. So I'll be fragging that branch.

And I can only take a tiny frag of this because it's encrusted on a rock that is too big to remove. But it's a healthy little coral. It'll encrust and grow well for someone. It's the original Frag Farmer Red Hot Chili Pepper Monti.

Some Tyree Idaho Grape Monti.

And next to it on of my favorite corals - hearty, good grower, and beautiful Meteor Shower Cyphastrea. That white gouge you see under it is where I pulled up a large chunk to frag.

ORA Pink and Green Pocillopora damicornis, a fast growing little coral when given lots of flow and good light. Did I say "lots" of flow? 'Cuz I meant lots.

And finally - if I see in this thread that we will have a good turnout - I'll frag my pride and joy: Vivid's Pink Stylophora. And yes, it really is that pink. :)

And I've finally fragged my coolest and by far most uncommon coral - my bright green, blue eyed Lithophyllon undulatum. This is just about my oldest, and most hearty coral. It's very chalice like, but does not encrust. It grows on top of - and takes the shape of - whatever you put it on. Technically its closely related to fungia. But MUCH more beautiful IMO.

Goal is to have some of these fragged up for Saturday...

This is going to be awesome. Lots of awesome corals will be in the raffle. And finally some sweet stuff I do not have!

I'll also be donating the usual RTMA fare.

ORA Original Oregon Tort
The Bali Slimer
My Rose Tipped Sarmentosa.
Purple Gorgonian

As well as a frag of the infamous Red Dragon.

I'm sure I'll be clipping more as we go too.

Looking forward to Saturday. Hope to see everyone there!

Well, I got thru fragging today and I'm bringing all the frags I mentioned in my prior post, INCLUDING the Vivid's Pink Stylophora. It is SWEET. It's fully polyped, deep pink, with 8-10 branches. It is a spectacular little frag.

But I made a mistake on my prior post... What I called my Frag Farmer Red Hot Chili Pepper Monti, is actually the Atlantis Sunrise Aequituberculata (encrusting monti) from Copps. They look VERY similar. The picture in my prior post is of the correct item.

Plus my tank is getting too small for my Rock Flower anemone. So I'm bringing that too. It's about 5" across when fully open - which is most of the time. And it's massively attached to a tennis ball sized live rock, so that's coming too. Here's a pic. I don't have one just of the 'nem. But you can see it just off the sand, to the right of middle, with his good buddy the sexy shrimp posing on it. It's a good nem. Beautiful under actinics or Royal Blues.

Can somebody explain a little how this works please? I'd like to attend and I don't have very many impressive frags, should I leave the common palys at home? Cause I've got lots of those I can bring

Justine - good to hear from you! :)

It's simple... At some point in the meeting, usually after we get bored talking "reef" with each other, we start the raffle. Anyone - club members and non-members alike - can buy a raffle ticket. And as each ticket is drawn from a hat (or whatever), the winner picks the drag of their choosing. We keep that up until all frags are gone. But usually - no guarantees - we run out of tickets sold before all donated frags are gone. So the "dregs" are given away.

The price of a ticket for this meeting has been set at $5. So frankly, everyone is a winner. At a $5 investment, you are almost guaranteed to walk away with a frags worth WAY more than that. I say that because we have always wound up giving away leftovers at the end.

Joe's Red Dragon usually sells from $60 to $150 a frag. I'm donating frags myself that are worth as much as $100 each. And there are more. Point is... Its hard to lose.

You do not have to donate to participate. You do not have to be a member to play! We do it to raise the meager funds we need to operate as a club.

Thanks for asking. Great question! Everyone with an interest in reef keeping is welcome! :)

And there is no requirement - nor expectation - that everyone buy a ticket. You can - as I will - just come for the chance to meet other local reef keepers. Good thing too, as my tank is full - could not take a frag if we were giving them away! ;)

Great, thank you for the run down Steve! Just joined ARK, because for ten bucks why NOT, and I'm happy to support our other local reef club. See everybody tomorrow! I'll bring what I've got, which at the moment is looking like a pink Monti cap or two, maybe a pokerstar and a whole mess of palys just in case someone has a home for them.
PS it's Justin, no 'e'.. And no worries! :)

For those coming; this is pine hill extension. There is a pine hill and pine hill extension.

Did some fragging yesterday.

I have two frags of my sky blue milli, one Oregon tort, one rose tipped sarmentosa, one red dragon frag one bali slimer and about 4 or 5 nuclear green candy cane for the raffle.

Should be fun!

Last year we had 26 items raffled off and this year we may beat that!

Cell is 203 918 9224 if you get lost!

Chips & drinks will be served.
