Nuisance Bryopsis- Slowly Going Bye Bye

Biggar

New member
Im happy to say my zoas are looking way more happy now only after 7 days of treatment and the small patches of Byopsis are getting smaller.

Byopsis likes to entangle the themselves right in zoas. This predator can take over your whole tank quickly unless acted upon.

I tried to cover Bryopsis so very little light could get to it, no work

Tried very low nutrients, no work

Tried dosing Kents Magnesium with Tech M= work

Not all eradicated but still in progress.

Treatment:

1. Buy Kents Mag with tech M. Gallon is about 20-25 bucks

2. I raised mag 3x more quickly than label. Instead of dosing 18ppm, I dosed 54 ppm per day. One time in am and pm

3. Started at 1350, Mag is now sitting about 1700 with Red Sea Kit

Im going to let it stay at this level and see what happens with the small amount of Bryopsis that is left. Used about 3/4 gallon on my tank

Hope this helps my fellow future reefers ( ;

I did this Biggar... i finally got rid of all my damn bryopsis after 8 months of trying everything else. I only raised it to 1700. However... if you got and precious zoas that you ABSOLUTELY love. I suggest you remove the frag plug they are on IMMEDIATELY. From my personal experience... around week 5-6 it wiped all mine out except a few. Also I have read reviews where the same thing has happened to other people and I know about 5 other people personally in Az that did this method and wiped out some prized Zoas.

Thats the only suggestion I can give you. Anyways.... I kept it at 1700ish for about 8 weeks. Than did a 50% water change finally. No bryopsis and no sign of it coming back! *crosses fingers*

Your welcome sir. ;)

Yep, Rich is guru. Thx

IMO dipping the affected frag in hydrogen peroxide water works better & doesn't stress out the whole tank.

I wish it was isolated to just one frag

I will keep an eye on rastas and utter chaos.

8 weeks. Wow, long time.

My water change is going to bring mag down this weekend. Maybe ill let it stay around 1600-1650

Thanks for heads up

You're not supposed to do a water change till the bryopsis is dead. You just screw yourself over because you lower your mag. Best to do a large one after its all dead. You should be fine with a month or so without a WC.

Then he's SOL lol

thanks lol ( ;

What if I just raise the new water up to 1700? Hmmmm decisions.....decisions

i did the same process a while back (Kent Tech M) and no bryopsis so far

nice

I haven't heard any of this zoa losing of yet. My other friend Rick, (novahobbies) is using it without seeing any of his zonthids perishing.
