Nuuze's 79G SPS Reef

crazy setup, awesome tank... but i'm most impressed w/ your sump, lol. it's so clean and simple. I have wires running everywhere in mine.

Ready for a stupid question ?

How do you keep the sump so clean? Basically, what is your sump cleaning routine ? How do you remove the detritus from the bottom of the sump,....

Thanks all! Not much going on at the moment.

I keep the sump clean two ways... When doing weekly water changes I suck out as much as I can at the bottom of the sump with a powerhead. Every three months or so I pull the entire sump and give it a water/vineger bath that cleans it quite well.

I just re-arranged my tank from the three mound look back to the wall look. Here are some pics...

Looks good Mike, though I think I'll need to see it in person. I really liked your previous arrangement(clown problem not with standing)

jtarmitage, the maroon clown and two anemones had to go. Maroon was getting out of hand moving all the sand and throwing my SPS around. :) They went to a good home.

Thanks tang daddy, my corals grow crazy where I'm constantly cutting/fragging for locals around me. I tend to keep my colonies small to medium. But it's tough on certain ones that the branches tend to grow thick.

Sorry to hear that Nuuze. I've got 3, but they were all bought used. I had to send 1 in for service, and the turnaround was pretty quick.

Congratulations on the upgrade. You've done so much and it looks very nice.

I got my Sfiligoi's in, and good gosh they are huge! In your pictures they don't look so large.

I'm a little worried that it will overwhelm the system 70. Maybe it's a gender thing because my husband loves it and wants to have it if I don't want it....

Is the secret to get it up a little higher? Sorry for the intrusion, but you are the only other person I found on here that has these.

Hi sugartooth,

Looks like you're off to a good looking start there! :)

I like the Sfiligoi about 9-10 inches from the tank line because I always have my hand in the tank whether it's cleaning, rearranging or hand feeding the fish. Sfiligoi recommends you lower the pendant low enough where the light spread line is almost completely in the water to eliminate the light spread to the room. I don't mind since my tank is in our family room and it also acts as room light for family time, reading, homework, etc. Hope this helps.

What wattage and ballasts did you get?

Thanks Nuuze. I appreciate your opinion!

I hope it's not so bad if I raise it a little more, and I hope it will come together nicely.

Thus far, it seems a bit overpowering for the nice lines of the Elos tank.

I got the XR6 model that is 1x250 DE w. 4 T5's. It's with IceCap Ballasts. I haven't tried them yet. I'm hoping to be able to get this together by tonight.

Thanks again. I very much appreciate it, especially since you set such a great example!
