Ocean In A Box's Nano Reef Journal >>>PICS!!!<<<

Believe me, wish I something, ANYTHING to post an update on.
But since everyone's asking, the only H2O related item I can find was a recent visit to The Wildnerness Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI.
So, here you go...indoor "beach", wavepool, etc...it's nice, but I envy any of you coastal folks out there...this certainly does not compare but it's all we can do in WI. ;)

This is the only pic I have to keep this thread alive and interesting this week. (I hope). :)
Take care,

Hey now...we can do much better than that in Wisconsin...

We can cut off everyone else's cheese supply for being so snooty with their beaches and warm weather.
Oh, and California..."Happy Cows" my foot. I'm watching you.

C'mon...do some more work on your tank...you know you want to.;)

Nah, we have lake Michigan which appears to be an ocean if you never knew it was a lake looking from the coast of it

That's true...back in high school my swim team took a training trip to florida, and flying out of Milwaukee one of the guys on the team looks out the window and says "Hey...was that a dolphin???"

Im sure glad i dont live in Wisconsin...hahahha.....jk

But I must say, living 1/4 mile from PCH and the Pacific Ocean in BEAUTIFUL SUNNY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, isnt too bad :):):):):)

Summer has been great in WI this year...and that means way slower progerss on the entire rec room and fish tank project.

Last few weeks though have been good though...just need to finish drop ceiling, have carpeting installed and few finishing touches. What's this mean? Fish tank installation and setup soon!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to drill the Oceanic 33g...anyone do it recently and have any further advice before I start? Any design on hole size/placement and/or internal/external overflow type arrangements would sure be appreciated!

I'll post some updated pics in next day or so...

Matt,

i pm'd you back then i figured since the tank was empty i would snap a few pics for ya.

the use of a tee coming of the back of the bulkhead with a cap on top works very well and is silent once you figure out wich size breather hole is right for the return pump you have.(just start with 1/8" drill bit and work your way up in size until its silent

the drilling of a tank the first time can be nerve racking. no matter if you use a tile bit from lowes or order a diamond hole saw just remember to go slow and keep the bit/glass from overheating.

here are the pics if you need anymore let me know.

OK...one hole in your overflow box...then your returns you just had over the back edge? One or two?
Also...is the height inside the tank exactly where-ever the bottom of your notches/teeth are?
I want to make sure not to see the water line in the final setup.

i had one line comming up from the return pump that split into two that went over the back.

you will want the teeth in the overflow box atleast an inch long (i did 1/14" because i was unsure of the return pump i was gonna use) and the top of the overflow will sit below the trim on top of the tank.

John...thanks so much. I'll have to do a bit more research and maybe drill the tank in next few days. What size overflows/plumbing did you use?

Does anyone have links to good parts for the actual DIY bulkheads and plumbing parts?

Thanks. I built the bar, but my brother did the top. My dad actually trimmed it out. I think my brother put the most time into it (sanding, etc). I just got done w/ the second coat of polycrylic...hoping it won't leave mine (or you reefers) glass marks on the wood when I'm all done...

Those are pretty small. A 1" bulkhead takes a 45mm hole. That is a good price though. I think my 45mm cost like 11 bucks shipped.
