Oceanic 215 with Solaris Build

Yes I also love these fish. I did a lot of research before purchasing and felt they would work with my "MOSTLY" calm fish. You'll see why I say mostly in a minute.

I made caves and overhangs just for this type of fish so they made their way into a cave to call their own very quickly. I had the liberty in making my clay rock works for my fish. I made little areas within the rocks - a hole to get in and out and a nice protected area inside (condos for our modern fish :) ). The male at first would only come out for about an hour at a time and that would be about 4 times per day. The female was very shy and I must say a little small (I felt from the start I would have problems with her). She at first would only come out after I feed, stay out for about 1/2 hour and then go back into her cave. I feed her using a feeder by gently shooting it into her cave area. As the days went on she got brave and would come out longer and longer, not as long as the male but she was doing great.

Well my Cirrhilabrus lubbocki (Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse) decide he wanted to pick a fight with the male anthia one night. That was the last time I saw the female. When she didn't come out in the morning to feed I started putting food in her cave again. Nothing helped and that little fight was to much for her. You could tell she didn't like being with the others but she was getting accustom to it and I really think she would have made it had it not been for that one and only dispute. I had her for a few weeks before this happened and I still have the male. The male is doing wonderfully and is out with everyone all day long. I had figured he would go into his cave when my MH came on but he is out 100% of the time. I do only have 3-250w and it appears this light doesn't bother him at all. He is a picker eater then some of my other fish but they get live mysis, rotifers and brine shrimp (yes they are spoiled). He eats all of those fresh and frozen and will eat a little of flake (Formula Two and Cyclop-Eeze) but that is to only supplement his diet. I make my own food and freeze it so I know what they are getting and their likes and dislikes. I test them before adding it to my mixture - I don't want stuff laying around the bottom and going to waste. I have enough of that without adding more - LOL.

Yes Marcye these fish are not easy and unless you are willing to take the time and effort they are not fish to have. I failed on the female and that is really sad, I take every fish loss personally. Luckily I don't have many and that's a good thing, otherwise I don't think I could do it.

marcye, not to get off topic, but did you ever wind up taking the other lineatus home. Mine is eating like a champ.

Great! Yep, mine is doing fantastic also. I have an exlarge super male coming in today to match up with the other. I can't wait! The Australians are so much more colorful! Mine is out and about all the time now and is doing fantastic. I'm really excited to be getting the other as I'm trying to get pairs on all my fish.

Reefartist, sorry to hear about the female. Keep me posted as I'd love to consider a pair down the road and am anxious to know how your male makes out! I'll have to check out you newest pics soon.

Okay, some updated pics and a video of the tank:

A few updated pics from yesterday. The staining is finished and we added a sanding sealer tinted with some Sedona Red to deepen the color and make it richer. I think one more coat of the sealer will get the color exactly where I wanted it. The doors should be on by Wednesday. Can't wait!

Thanks, I have several ACI pieces to come soon. Just wanted to wait until after all the staining and sanding before I brought home any newer pieces. All that I have right now were mostly established pieces, so as soon as we're through the rest of the assembly, I'll really start loading up:)

Thanks, My....I love the Solaris. The only problem I had was one of my power supplies went out last week, but I called PFO and they had a new one to me within a couple days. Excellent customer service! Carla in the aquarium division is top notch and has been an excellent source for info. I really went back and forth with other lighting options due to the price, but I'm very glad I decided on the Solaris. My tank stays between 77.8 and the highest it's been is 80.4, but normally stays between 77.8 and 79.6. Here are an update to my params:
Salinity: 1.025
Current temp (ACIII, 9pm): 78.6
PH (ACIII): 8.6
ORP (ACIII): 308
Calcium: 450
Alk: 11.8
Magnesium: 1320 (a bit low...bumped up the doser)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Phosphate: 0

Buldog: No problems at all with the fumes. We ran fans during the staining and I kept a large bag of carbon in the sump just as a precaution. Everything went perfect. The doors will go on tomorrow evening. Can't wait!

I missed the picture with it stained. That looks really good. How did your livestock respond? Any indicators of distress on anyone's part?

Thanks, Melev. No stress at all. Everything is doing very well since we did the work on Saturday and Sunday. Once all the doors are on I'll start working on getting the glass panels made by ReefArtist. I'm thinking with the Lotus in the window above, some type of sea grass done in fused glass with greens and a touch of red with a blue background would be a nice touch.
