Oceanic 37g Radion growth thread

I have seen some questions about how the Radion will perform and since I have a new set up I thought I'd start a thread to share my experience since all these corals will have started and always will be under the Radion. I know that parameters and many other factors go into the health of the animals but at least its something for everyone to check out.. I will post the growth & Changes each month.

Set up: 37g Oceanic ,Acrylic Cover, Ecosystem 40 Refugium with JBJ Nano LED, Radion XR30,Premium Hanging Kit, ATO, JBJ T3 heater, Vortech MP10, 30 lbs Pukani Dry Rock

I know that the no protein Skimmer might get some excited but I ran this system with MH 250 with great results of SPS growth for years before breaking it down. If I find that I have issues I am not against adding one as well.

Running the Radion Light hangs 6" above tank (tank dimensions 24w x 20 h x 18 deep)

8am-10 pm starting 5%
9am 14K 40%
10 am 12 K 50%
4 pm 12K 50%
7pm 14K 60%
8:30 20K 60%
10Pm 0ff
I have played with some sunset/sunrise as well as clouds but this is the basic program.. Also remember the acrylic top does cut the intensity. If I switch to a screen top or no top I would dial it back

I do a 5 g water change every week

Cycled the tank and began livestock additions Nov 13

Parameters have been stable running:
Nitrites,Nitrates and PO4 all 0
CA 420-440
Alk 8.5 dkh
mg 1300-1400
Salinity 1.025-6
PH 8.2=8.3

Nice tank. I just recently, last night actually started up my 37G after it crashed some time ago. How much flow do you have going through your refugium? Total flow on system. Are you using any GAC or GFO?

Thanks. I have a rio 90 on the Fuge and use a VorTech mp10. The mp10 is plenty of flow. I do not have any GAC or GFO on the system. Good luck on your set up and sorry to hear about the crash always frustrating.

Wanted to post the 1 month pictures and update the additions to the tank. Most significant is that I added a HOB-1 Aquamaxx Skimmer. Also I ordered a sump and skimmer that I will add in April. The Wellsophyliia started to receed due to the high flow and light so I had to move to a very shaded and low flow area of tank.

I will try to find the Frogskin picture at start as it has had some nice growth. There are some pictures in my other thread as well when they were first put in the tank In the nano forum. Link. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2094467

wow, I didn't realize how small that light is. Thanks for sharing. I have a 37g RR with corner overflow...and I really want one of these on the tank. Radion has won me over. I used to want a AI SOL Blue...but withe red and green, and how the colors mix and the computer program to adjust it and sync with the pumps...etc....I just cant resist. (though the price is helping me to resist)

As soon as I can afford one I will take the plunge.

Keep the updates coming. thanks.

No problem, It is amazingly small and quiet as well. You won't be disappointed with the radion and the programming is simple to use.

I'll be following this, looking to get a cube set up soon.

The radion has been a great light for this footprint. If you do a 24x24 size the one is perfect. Mine is only 6-7 inches off the water and the spread is perfect. Good luck with your new set up.

thanks for that, its a good thread as i was worried about SPS growth but it seems ok so far.

I am in the UK and will do a similar thread to convince UK reefers they are more than good enough to grow sps

No problem , I will post again next month with more pictures..I have been pleased with the growth and color.

Here is the 2/10/12 updates. Please excuse the poor photograhy..I will put the picture and date of the coral first put in and to date to compare. Tank parameters have remained steady and unchanged but have had a recent rise of cyano..might be do to the feeding of the corals Coral Frenzy 2x week target feeding and some Elos AA. 5 g water change each week. Will split into several posts.

Looking good Ted! I really like the Pearlberry. I think that and the Purple Plasma are next on my list.
