Oceanic BioCube or Nanowave

Nothwithstanding the moronic comment by enraged above, its still better to buy a tank from a lfs. Hoefully, it will work out the second time around. This tank is not yet available here on the west coast. Good Luck!

hey thats not nice!
I did not know they do not insure glass so it was asking a legit question :(

You don't know or buy a product you have not at least had a chance to take a close look at unless you want to buy yourself some extra headaches and you don't buy a glass tank thru the mails if at possible. Oceanic will not even bother to return emails about availabil-ty of the biotope on the west coast and nobody has been able to get an idea when the Red Sea new nano will be released and who will sell it.

I bought a JBJ Nanocube from Dr Foster & Smith no problems.

LET'S CLARIFY A BIT!!

LET'S CLARIFY A BIT!!

Let's not get too excited about the redsea system's lighting.
"t5" simply designates the diameter of the tubes. These ARE NOT t5ho. they do not offert the benefits of t5ho either. They are common t5 power compacts, and do not include individual reflectors. The lighting will NOT neccesarily be any better than the JBJ, Current USA, or Coralife already available in the Nanocube, Aquapod, and BioCube respectively. However, there could be a remote chance the spectrum output is better. IMO, that is not likely.
As for the skimmer, well, it is basically a Prizm......

I asked the 8 ball

I asked the 8 ball

How shall I count the ways...

a: 110w is not a figure that could be arrived at if using t5ho

b: 110w is EXACTLY 2 x 55w which is common t5pc wattage

c: in the linked to pdf from this thread, the junction can clearly be seen joining the two tubes on the right hand side, which does not include an endcap, a feature not found on linear tubes.

d: there are a limited number of mfgr.s making pc bulbs, with even fewer in t5 tube diameters. This leaves me assuming RedSea will select one of them and rebrand it. Again, this will likely not bring a new flavor, but one already available to the market.

e: From the aforementioned pdf, one can see the lack of individual reflectors.

f: The skimmer is built off the same design as the prizm, even using the same "turbo pump" designation. I, for one, would not trust 30 gallons to a Prizm. What more can I say? It will be better than the Fission by Current. But probably noisier too.

g: 1-888-RED-SEA9

Ok. That ought to cover it, but theres more. It seems the #1 issue w/ the Current AP is heat. I can't help but wonder what THREE pumps do to this system. Might be the reason they come with 5/8" breakout holes for addition of a chiller. And the 2 circs are only rated 158gph, which, IMO, is pitiful for this sized tank. But they will be made by Hydor, so should have much better efficiency than the ones in JBJ/Current.

aqua-medic is comming out with a 9gal nano. its has a skimmer PC lights, fuge with PC light that runs opposite of tank and a place to run filter pads, carbon or whatever you want, they seem to be pretty sweet. i would post a link but their site is wacko right now.

kellynguyen-I just bought the 14 gallon biocube, I really like it. It makes my JBJ look like a toy being that the quality is much better. If you were going to buy a nano right now I would recommend it for sure, but the aqua-medic he just mentioned above sounds pretty awesome, so I'd check into that one first.

Thank you mdisalvo55, you see i just bought a 72g and havent set it up yet, and i thought maybe if i started with the nano i could learn a little more since it has everything you need in it, instead of me trying to see how and where to start with the big tank... i dont know or should it be the other way around?

That finnex tank is Really nice. I personally think the biocube looks nicer because of the self contained look. However, the finnex is really high tech looking and has a skimmer built in. I think the finnex will give you a better idea of how things work just becuase it has the filtraiton int he back with clear glass so you can see whats going on and you'll be able to see how a skimmer works.

I have the 14 gallon Bio-Cube. I love it, for my money it is the best nano available.

I filled chamber 1 with live rock

I have a skimmer in chamber 2
I aslo have a pump that circulates water to my remote refugium in chamber 2
I
n chamber 3 I have a return pump that feeds the UV sterilizer and chiller before returning to the tank.
