Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

It looks like its low at the moment ---but let it settle out, can you post new one after 15min? (you want the transition from small bubbles to large bubbles to be @1/3 the way up the neck) BTW, Clean the neck. Dirty neck also slows organics from being removed..
I cleaned mine daily with a baby bottle brush, the kind with a sponge on the end.

I ran the new style for less than a week, so I don't remember the water level in it.. but the old style was @ first bend

cool thanks that where I have been but it will drop out i dont have much bioload so thats why it keeps moving i think

i cleaned the neck and its been running a few days with the water level lower it does have a good head of foam but it just gets to the top and stops, wont spill over. im guessing theres just not enough DOC's yet or maybe i should lower it even more. thanks

OCTOX 200 with BB3000

OCTOX 200 with BB3000

Here are some pics I took of my OCTOX 200 with BB3000 pump. I have recently experience some cyano on my sand which I believe is a result from increased feeding and bioload. I have added 6 new fish in the last 2 months and the anthias only eat mysis/brine shrimp and I feed multiple times daily along with pellets and nori. I decided to skim wetter to help exporting nutrients, so I closed my gate valve to see what would happen.
These were taken right after I cleaned the cup:

I know it is wet, but that was the goal.

You can see the DOCs splatter all over, nice.

A lot more stuff came out than I was expecting. Might leave it like this for a while and see how the tank responds

skimmer looks like its working well, do you prefer wet to a more dry skimmate? I have a darker and more thick skimmate after about 3 to 4 days and my overflow container doesn't fill up (1.5 L) for about 3 months or so if I never dump it between weekly skimmer cleanings

Hello everyone,
Ive been reading thru most of the old posts here, but I am still unsure about the impeller. I have an Octo extreme 200 with the mesh modded impeller running on the sicce psk 2500 pump. My question is, is this still the best impeller available performance wise for this skimmer? Or is the purple needle wheel impeller a better performer? Anybody try both?
Thanks
Eric

I have tried the mesh wheel and it does a great job. I am running the Octo Extreme 200 as well. I have been using the PPW for about a year now. I like the pinwheel because it preforms well and no start up issues. I always put to much mesh on so I had start up issues and was always messing with it to try to get better performance. But I do think that the mesh wheel is the best and the PPW is close to it. I am curious about the Red Demon pin wheel that's out now, some say that it is way better, but what I have is working so I am leaving it for now.

Do they sell a get valve mod for the octo extreme? I know it is metric pvc, but I wanted to try and get a metric pvc valve as opposed to using adapters.

just installed new red demon pinwheel last night on my 200 xtreme. it rocks. have used stock, 2 atb purple & this one tops them all. no start up issues yet & pulls more air & water then purple so far. will update futher. so far couldnt be happier, imo beats purple by a long shot! ;)

Did you just get the red demon pin wheel? I read about a new volute also. I was looking into trying the red demon pinwheel to see if there was any improvement compared to the purple pin wheel but I was not sure if I needed to get the new volute also.

Red demon and volute is better than the PPW. A lot of people have had issues with the PPW not starting and also breaking, including myself. I have not personally used the red demon and the volute, but if I didn't get the bubble blaster 3000, I would have tried the RD combo next.

Post some pics fellas!

So you do need the volute to go with the red demon pin wheel for it to work? Who has the volutes for sale online? Is it just Warner Marine?

From what Ive read here, the warner marine volute is not available for sale. It only comes with their skimmers.
Has anyone tride the Red Devil from warner marine with Sicce intake reducer from Marine Solutions? Also whats the difference between the red devil from warner marine and the Aqumaxx large red devil pin wheel sold by Marine Depot???
Thanks
Eric

You don't have to have the volute from WM, but they say it is better. I tried contacting WM a couple times back when I had my sicce pump, and got no response. I would ask around RC and try to get a hold of Jon from WM.
