my octo ext 160 works ok,but upgraded to the red demon pin wheel and a .125 carbon rod for the ceramic rod,this thing rocks,starts right up and is making alot of micro foam....just completely cleaned skimmer so i can see the results when i get home from work today......mike:smurf:

I have the 160 with the PPW and from day one it has not had a smooth start. It rattles for a while then starts to draw water. If I put my finger over the intake it fires right up. What causes this?

i just got my red demon pinwheel installed on my extreme 200 and WOW its an air suckin machine!! I would say it increased the bubbles 100% over the stock pinwheel, it did have trouble starting at first, just pumped the pump and it took off, unplugged it and plugged it back in and its fine, just be sure to open the gate valve a ways, this thing pumps alot more water.........

Should I raise it to around 6"?

Right now I have the pipe A "open" line up with the arrow on the T, what is the proper setting for it? The more pipe a open the more it skims?

What is the proper way to clean this skimmer? Can I leave it run while I remove the cup to clean?

I installed the Red Demon pinwheel tonight. I am very impressed so far. I can maintain a bubble head with the gate valve about half open. With the stock skimmer, it had to be almost closed.

Can I leave it run while I remove the cup to clean? (NO)
Water level should be around 6" to 6.5".
Cup should be cleaned a couple times a week, body I only clean every 3 to 5 months. JMO
Change the location of the outlet and inlet of the pump, looks like there inline of each other.

Where do you find this eggcrate material in HD or Lowes. I asked a guy there the other day about it and he looked at me like i was drunk.

Lowes carries it -HD doesn't anymore. They've switched all their stock over to the beaded diffuser sheets.
