Shaned, man that sounds fun, I love to go out there and hang out with you guy sometime. This Sat I have to attend a funeral and won't be back home until about 2-3 pm. Maybe one of these day we can set up a date to go as a group and cook right on the beach after the harvest :D

I love the line about the weight belt, they are cheap, and that is why they put a quick release on them, sadly some just forget the basics.
I dumped one once, and when all was well I managed to get it back, but it sure is hard to get back down without it!

Dive conditions are near perfect this morning. We are expexting winds to increase a bit this afternoon but for now the ocean is flat and water visibility is good. The weekends forecast calls for more of the same with the possibility of large surf later next week.
The kelp is becoming very thick in a lot of dive locations, it is wise to streamline your dive gear down to avoid any entanglements.

REMEMBER! Drop your weightbelt at the FIRST sign of any trouble in the water. Not dropping the weightbelt in time is the # 1 factor in abalone diver drownings.

I am bringing a white and Steve said he had some merlot for us. A hearty red to go with the ribs and burgers / wieners would be a dandy addition.

I will be bringing a flank, for the BBQ and maybe a ling or cod!

Anyone know how to BBQ abalone? I've heard it's great but i have never done it...it is so precious i don't wanna mess it up.

I have cooked Ab a bunch of ways, was never that impressed with BBqing it.
Seemed like more work than usual, but maybe I was not doing it right.....

As for going diving, I am no longer in proper shape. I have lost the weight, and could fit in my wet suit again, but need to get fit, not just thin.
I would need to stick to Rock Pickin, and I hate rock pickin.

when you say 30+ club do you mean you got 30 + abbs? or you were all over 30 years old? I limit out my card each year and only pull 9" or bigger. I love to dive.....if anyone likes urchin i will grab a few. I think they are nasty but i heard it is very $ and taste good to some. It is a limt of 30 per day. I'll bring some for ppl to try the roe.

I know that some people wrapped it in foil, add a little soysauce and then slow BBQ it until its tender but I think the best way to eat Abalone is RAW :D

I have also slice it up and saute it quickly with butter and eat it right off the cooking pan and that is awesome too.

Man wish I can be there to party with you guys but I have to attend a funeral with my buddy, his Dad passed away and he is devastated. He needs my support right now.

yep it is 3 per day and 26 per season! I think $55 a year. You have to them as soon as you exit the water. You are even supposed to carry your tag and license into the water with you so you can loose it! Your license and card is all wet when you get out and you can't record your catch on it...they need reform, it's a mess. Do you guys want to bring a pounder and bread crumbs to cook one? Cause it is a lot of work and i don't wanna make a big mess at Steve’s house. I'll donate an abb to the club to eat but i don't wanna cook it too, but I'll clean it for you...you can eat it raw! Anyone wanna volunteer to cook the abalone?

OK if you guys really are abb crazy I'll give two to the club! that is if someone else cooks also half my fish for the day....but i reserve the right to the biggest ling.
 
Ribs sounds good Guy. How did you cook them? Hey im down to do some pounding if some one else is cooking the abbs. I am bringing the burgers and hot dogs. What do you guys think about maybe some polish dogs. And is anyone opposed to the preformed burgers.

Hey guys Sorry for the last minute cancellation but I got a bad case of Poison Oak yesterday and it is making my life miserable today and I would be terrible company so I won't be going. :sad1:Please take some photos of Steve's for me and eat a couple ribs for me as well.

I am really bummed as I made a sample T Shirt and had some magnets with my sample logo on them to show you guys and give out..

I guess it will have to wait till next week. Craig
