Octopus tank.....Need opinions

I am currently setting up one of my extra 12g nanos on my desk for an octopus tank. The hood is being modded with weight and is also going to be totally sealed and lockable.

Besides a Blue Ring, Is there any other octo's that are as cool and as small as the Blur Ring.

Thanks!

Why are you getting a blue ring. It is very toxic and its blue rings only show when it is stressed and feeling threatened.

Well.......This is the reason for the post. I am asking for suggesstions on cool, small octopi. I also know all about the blue rings toxins, another reason I would consider a different species although I don't plan on ever reaching in the tank and taunting it. These animals are not aggressive and will only attack and use their venom that is deadly towards humans (they secrete 2 types of venom one of which is only for defensive purposes. The other is primarily for crabs, their food of choice) when they feel threatened. And yes, the blue rings are only visible right before they attack but the blue rings were not the reason I was considering it. Besides, they look cool without the blue rings anyway. The main reason I was considering the BRO was for its small size.

i dont think you could keep many octopuses in a 12g maybe some pygmys but they only live 6 months or less and trhey are hard to find

Keeping a blue ring is, in my opinion, very..er...irresponsible. Blue rings are incredibly toxic, their neurotoxin resulting in complete paralysis within 15-20 minutes, if I remember my toxicology right. Just having the risk of having the octo escaping and stepping on him in the middle of the night, or having a loved one do the same, would be ridiculous. Why take the chance? Why? Is it really worth your life to keep that animal?

Carson, how did your octo tank go? I am thinking about getting a bimac a couple years down the road (once i can afford a chiller) what temp did you keep yours at, and what species did you have? Any comments would be appreciated

he was doing great till someone left the lid open and he got out it was a sad day but I'm thinking of setting up a 60gl tank for a bimac this summer

My bimac passed last nov. I am currently getting ready to have another. They are a great experience and a wonderful animal to interact with. I had no need for a chiller, as I keep my house at 69F year round. My octo was 1 year old when it passed and lived an average lifespan.

Sulp, there are many species of dwarf octos that are non toxic. ( Octopus Bocki, octopus digueti, octopus fitchi, octopus joubini,
octopus micropyrsus, octopus parvus, octopus superciliosus,
octopus warringa, octopus wolfi. ) All are 4-6 mos lifespan, but i will warn you that octos are messy and you will need to be aggressive with your mantinance.

Also, not to be a nay sayer, just a word of caution. Most dwarf that are harvested are older, and you may do everything wonderfully, only to have ended up with an octo at the end of their life. The reason I mention, is not to get to discuraged if this happens.
