Odd Yellowhead Jawfish question

My jawfish has started doing something kinda odd.
He has his burrow nicely constructed in the sand....and at night (every night)....he drags a large rock over the opening. When the lights come on the next day, he'll push his rock away.

Has anyone heard of this type of behavior?

I did have a hairy crab in the main tank....at least until last week...but I did manage to catch him and move him to the sump. I'm wondering if the crab may have spooked him at one point, and he decided to 'close the door' to visitors........?

I do have pics of this at home, and I'll post them tomorrow.

I do not have an answer, but I am looking forward to the pics of that. Behaviors like that are the reason I keep fish. Kind of makes you laugh a little when they do things like that.

That is actually a common thing with jawfishes and a lot of burrowers. Our yellowhead colony use to do that. Also, my mantises use to do that as well. It's pretty entertaining.

Here's a progression of shots showing him removing the rock soon after the lights came on.
Notice the one shot of him spitting out a shell......he has a HUGE mouth! He is always working on his burrow to improve it, and uses shells alot.....what was so funny, he kept picking up shells with live hermit crabs and placing them around his doorway....only to see them crawl off. Most of the time, he would grab them and put them back....but they finally escape. This happens all the time....so I'll get a shot of that eventually.

This guy is by far the most entertaining fish I've owned.

No girlfriend yet. I wish I could positively id the sex on this one so I could get another one.

That's common jawfish behavior.
