This is so cool!!! Did you get anything other than brown trout?

A lot of rainbows. Threw that brown trout because everyone sees rainbows.

Have to do this in my lifetime.

California heritage trout challenge b

Catching six different forms of native trout from their historic drainages may take you to varied locations around the state. Some may be caught in roadside waters while others may only be caught in wilderness areas.

Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarki)
coastal cutthroat trout
Lahontan cutthroat trout
Paiute cutthroat trout
Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
coastal rainbow trout
Eagle Lake rainbow trout
McCloud River redband trout
Goose Lake redband trout
Warner Lakes redband trout
Kern River rainbow trout
California golden trout
Little Kern golden trout

I think I have been to that water fall spot. We went with some former coworkers on a houseboat. It was spring time and the melting ice water was invigorating. Take a bit getting used to, but you feel like superman when get out of the water. :)

IF you do this please post pics!!! I used to work for the CA dept of fish and game on a bioassessment field crew that sampled creeks all throughout California. I always found it amazing how rainbow trout and other trout could differ so much in appearance based on the tributaries they are found in throughout California. My favorite was def the golden trout.

That golden is beautiful and in a remote location. I believe you have to hike into lower sequoia or golden trout wilderness and its an overnight backpacking trip. Iirc the Paiute maybe the hardest.

Nice little brown trout, those are always fun to catch when getting mostly rainbows. I'm getting excited for my annual fishing trip in a couple weeks. We go to 6 different lakes on the trip, hopefully I catch a lunker this year!

Sounds awesome. What lakes?

Hmm, not sure I could get my boat in there. ;)

Awesome country, beautiful fish. Thanks for sharing Mike.

I hope to be landing 3lb browns this July when I'm floating the Yellowstone in Montana. Browns, cutthroat, rainbows, cut-bos. And the occasional white fish, the true native fish of the river.

My largest brown trout was 18.5", caught on the private property of the founder of Orvis. That was a special day of fishing.

Very beautiful place. I lived in Ashland, OR for a year and would fish the McCloud as much as I could on my way back down.

Cool, disorienting picture!

Where is this Walker Lake? I googled and found one in NV but it didn't seem to have any trees around it.

Wow! Beautiful picture, love how you captured the sky just in the reflection. Oh, I see a rise in the corner on the far bank. Just kidding. =)

Maybe the lake is east of Yosemite, near Mono Lake.

I caught 5 the first day at Lundy, 5 the second day at June, then 10 the last day at Walker. Nothing too big, but still fun.
