Official Borbonius Anthias Thread

Yeah I called him literally the minute his email hit my box at like 8 am and got the day off tomorrow haha. I didnt have money for a trio though since I just finished christmas shopping yesterday ironically. If my local guy can get me anymore I will snag a couple more next month.

Dwanner, can you post some pics of yours when they come? I would like to see how the compare to what I get tomorrow.

I managed to get one from a LFS's display tank about a week ago ... miraculously the owner caught him. LOL. I must admit I paid a premium on the fish considering they had him in the display for almost 2 years.

I do have a Fathead Anthias in the tank as well (got him before the Blotched) ... the Borbonius isn't exactly the "friendliest" around him. :|

I'd much rather pay a premium for this fish knowing that it has been in capitivity a year or two than spending a lot of money on the fish that has been freshly imported chancing all the issues that come along with that. Nice find! I look forward to seeing your pictures of the anthias.

DCG, nice fish man. Did you pick her up from Mike at Tropical Island?

Hey man. :) I did indeed. The g/f had been begging for this fish for soooooooo long ... Mike made a few attempts to catch him before with no luck, and the night I went he was able to nab it!

+1 ... without a doubt!!!!

Glad you guys were able to jump on the Nya ones. I want to buy another but it was difficult enough telling my wife I bought one haha.

As for the price I am willing to take my chances. Nya has an arrival guarantee and 14 day guarantee as well. I like getting young fish because I have some idea of how old they really are and know that if they randomly die, it's not of old age. That being said, I have only lost one fish ever with my reef tank and it was a clown that made its way into the skimmer pump. My only other Mia is a bluespot jawfish but my tank is covered and big, so I am guessing he is hanging out aomewhere.

Anyone else think his eye looks weird? Or is that just how They look when small? He is about 2" so a lot larger than I had anticipated actually. About the size of my clowns.

i got my trio from NYA this morning and all were swimming normally but I didn't get a close look at the their eyes yet.

Picked up 5 of them about a month ago. Not bugging any of the other fish but are kinda quarreling amongst each other. All are eating well. I think one might have a swim bladder issue, kinda hanging out upside down under my shelves. Pics in the link above.

Same here. I ended up selling three and only keeping 2. Much better IMO as there are no more fights. Great, great fish.

Ok I have proof that this guy lives. Tank lights weren't on yet, but I have no clue if he is now out for good or not, so I'll take what I can get. I also redid the rock work on the right of the tank to mix everyone up. I created a cave that is 1.5 feet tall and maybe a foot in diameter. They all love it.

what do your fish prefer to eat?

Both each anything that floats. My bigger one (~4") is an absolute pig and I understand how these guys can get to 6"+ in the wild with that sort of an appetite. The smaller one (~3") does not venture out much from his cave but he has a particular fondness for large Formula 2 pellets as they roll by him.

^Thank you. I have been feeding spectrum and mysis and seen him eat both. So luckily he has the correct appetite.

Yeah I am finding that my fish is extremely nocturnal. He sits at the mouth of the cave all day, and every night at 10:15 on the dot, comes out and starts swimming around. It is weird because the lights go out at 9:30, and all of the tangs are still swimming around when he comes out, so its not like there is something he is scared of during the day that isnt there at night or anything.

Think that will change as he spends more time there?
