Nuvo 39 up and running since early January '14. Finally got our Maxspect Razor lights the end of February and it made quite a difference. Still tweaking them though. Running 2 Hydor Sart wave pumps with the Pump Controller and that's working good. Also the Hydor Slim Skim skimmer. Everything seems to be doing well right now although the Elegance is still trying to find it's "happy place" in the tank. Various Zoas, Pulsing Xenia, Torch, Duncans, Hammer and Frogspawn. Favia frag I(will it ever grow??) and Wellsophylia on the sand bed.

UPDATE: almost three months in and the Nuvo sprung a leak on the bottom left side. My biggest nightmare came true but thankfully I was at home to handle. All livestock, fish, inverts and corals are currently being baby sat by my local fish store and IM has already been contacted. Hoping for quick results!

Does anyone know if a tunze nano skimmer (or which one for that matter) will fit in the 16g IM nuvo? Just had to return the IM desktop Skimmate because it was so noisy and not really doing anything.

The IM website has a drawing with dimensions of all of the filtration compartments. I cannot remember off the top of my head weather the tunze skimmer 9002 will fit or not but I am fairly sure that 9004 will not fit. I have been trying to find an alternative skimmer to fit in one of those compartments for a couple of weeks now because of the same problems you are having with your IM skimmer. I have been battling with it for about 6 weeks now and it is just now starting to work a little bit.

Btw. I'm running the IM 16g nuvo. I love the tank. Aside from the skimmer upgrade that is being returned, I upgrade to the IM custom caddies on both overflows. Also have 2 koralia 425. Futures plans include the IM minimax reactor and magnafuge (unless anyone can suggest a better intank fuge setup)
Have about 15-20lbs LR. 10lb dry sand.
Stocked with a black clown misbar, purple firefish, cleaner shrimp, serpent star, gbta that split. Mixed reef includes acros, acans, aussie and purple hammers, green monti, pagoda, candy cane, war coral.

Thanks brifox. I looked at the dimensions. I'm not so sure it will fit but I'm tempted to order and give it a shot just to try it. Sorry to hear you're having the same problem. Thankfully the Jason at BRS worked with me and they are willing to return the Skimmate. Can you suggest a possible alternative if the tunze doesn't fit?

I think if I have to replace mine I'm going to try the cad lights nano skimmer, but the bracket will have to be modified...

I quickly measured one this morning at the lfs and I think I can make it fit by cutting the bracket some. I'm not 100% sure yet but I think so. ..I forgot to bring calipers and just had a measuring tape. Although if it's cut up no one will take it back if I don't like it.

It's definitely a gamble. But good luck if that's the option you go with. Let us know on here how it works out. I'm probably going to give the IM Skimmate another shot with a replacement to see if maybe I just got a defective product. Im definitely up in the air about it because I don't want to be stuck with a piece of equipment that I'm not happy with.

I made up my mind to return it this morning when I found it had overflowed overnight again. I will let you know what I end up with.

had my mixed reef NUVO16 running for about 9 months now.. just wanted to give my .02 cents on the IM skimmer

STICK WITH IT!!! It look literally 3 months to break in to the point where the micro bubbles stopped altogether. I had to cram filter floss between the return and skimmer to catch them before, now I dont have to. Once you get past the point of break in it is a great skimmer, I get half a cup of dark skimmate daily

That's good to hear. My only issue is that it's break in period is advertised 7-14 days, not 3 months with the need of added filter floss. Granted that may be the only option considering it's really the only intank nano skimmer that fits our 16s.

Trust me I know. I was mad for a while that I wasted $100 on a skimmer that wasn't working as I hoped. But now I'm fine with it, happy actually. You would definitely be taking a risk trying to find another skimmer to fit the footprint of the chamber in the Nuvo. The IM skimmer BARELY fits in there. Its a super tight squeeze.

That's interesting. Glad to know yours finally started working. Did you have overflowing issues also?
