I feel like I want to change the scape to a minimalist style, but I can't seem to come up with anything. When I started in the hobby, most people were keen on the coral "wall" look. I've tried to avoid that. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look for inspiration?

From your picture, it looks like you've got the Skimmate pretty well dialed in. What issues are you having?

In the back chamber I have a lot of bubbles that are hopping around and bursting outside the skimmate. Because of this, when they burst, the left side of my tank (glass', IM skimmate, and top) have quite a bit of salt deposit. Oh right on! Such a good article. Thanks Brifox and M4rz. Hopefully I'm able to put the info to good use. Don't exactly have a lot of room in a 16g tank lol 😅 but I do have an idea that I think will look good. Just started curing my rock last night

Nuvo 16 power head question

Nuvo 16 power head question

I have a Nuvo 16 and would like more flow. I was thinking of adding a Koralia 240 or 425. Does anyone have any suggestions on if I should go with the 240 or 425?
Thanks

Ok, so I am new to SW but I can tell you what I have and what I plan on doing. I have the koralia 425 in my 30g NUVO. This is the one thing that I am changing. I don't have endless pockets so my plan is to change out the Koralia with a Jebao wp10. I am changing it as I don't want a constant flow, I want to be able to control the flow so that it can be low or high depending on the time of day. So, not really answering your question but letting you know what I am doing. My tank is 20w x 20d and the 425 is fine.

Here's a pic of my aquacsape. We like it as it was our first attempt. Took awhile to figure it out though. You can see the Koralia on the right.

GeneK,
One thing that I've heard others mention is upgrading the return pump, which is something that I'm considering. I am actually running two koralia 425s. I have great flow, but it's just constant. Even with the IM spin streams. I plan to upgrade to a powerhead that has wavemaker capabilities, but I don't have the money for them yet. From what I've read and heard, turbulent flow is much better for reef aquariums than constant flow.

Yes, that is exactly why I plan on switching out my koralia - turbulent flow. I am interested in replacing the stock return pump as I have heard the same. I haven't investigated it much yet, but will once I get the new wave makers.

M4rz,
I like your rock work. It's simple and looks like you took tips right out of that forum post on aquascaping. Nicely done

Thanks very much....first SW tank so I am very excited as is the family!

Well very nice indeed. I look forward to seeing how it turns out once you start stocking. Any ideas on what kind of livestock you want?

GeneK,
As far as return pumps go, I've read some decent reviews on the tunze silence 1073.02. I haven't read much into any other products, but I do know that tunze is a trusted quality name in our hobby.

I only have a 16g, so space is limited, this is the rock work that I have come to a decision on. The photo is just a mock set up in an empty 20g tall. Any criticisms?

In all honesty, the only ideas of stocking have really been the 2 clowns. The family like Bangai's as do I, but I have no intent to overstock. In terms of corals, I am very new, so what we know are the colors that we would like to see. This will take a lot of time to figure out tbh.

Like I said I am no expert, but I like the aquacsape you have done. It's hard or me to see if that is like a shelf on the larger assembly to the right?

Fair enough. It has a lot of potential though so good luck!

And thanks. I hope it looks good once my corals are placed. The larger one is shelf-like. But not in the traditional sense in which corals will be placed just straight across at a consistent level. It slopes downward and will allow placement all over for different types of corals

Lol...that's what I thought. Yes I like aquacaping as it looks like you have plenty of places to put stuff.
