These were just two leftover rocks from my old tank.

+1. I like the minimalist look, and that huge rock looks to have a "dark side" so to speak. I had a rock like that in which a large rock casted a shadow and had a dark side to it...created a cool dimension.

Ugh..I need to find a Fusion 30L. Anyone have one in stock?

GeneK,
One thing that I've heard others mention is upgrading the return pump, which is something that I'm considering. I am actually running two koralia 425s. I have great flow, but it's just constant. Even with the IM spin streams. I plan to upgrade to a powerhead that has wavemaker capabilities, but I don't have the money for them yet. From what I've read and heard, turbulent flow is much better for reef aquariums than constant flow.

I am using the smaller Koralia pump. It's not enough flow and is constant so I'm replacing it with an MP-10 that will have to be dialed way down but has nice controls and can be turned off at night. Additionally... I don't know if it will fit yet but I have been thinking about replacing the return pump with the Tunze silence pump that can be electronically controlled with the reefkeeper pump controller so it could be sped up during the day and slowed down at night - that would be kind of expensive though and I'm not convinced of the payoff.

Thanks brifox and spoon. Definitely going for the minimalist look that still offers enough space for all my corals. I'm finding it extremely difficult to refrain from buying more and more

New Nuvo 40 build

New Nuvo 40 build

I just got a Nuvo 40 for my birthday the beginning of the month. We ordered it from Marine Depot. It came packed really well. A box within a box with a ton of peanuts. One problem tho, they sent the 30L stand instead of the 40 cube, so I had to wait another week for the correct stand. Marine Depot was really good about picking up the wrong one and sending out the correct one. I just put it together last night and all looks great. Today I went and got 40 lbs of live sand Fidgi pink and pukani rock. I had to fill@29 gallons of water after the Sand and rock. Now I am waiting for the tank to clear up so I can post pictures. I am looking to buy a skimmer. I am between the tunze 9004 and the hydor slim skimmer. I am also trying to decide on a light while my tank cycles. I am looking for LED light. I want something that has a simple design that I don't have to hang because my tank is in a corner. Any suggestions on a light?
I was looking at the intank baskets. I just sent them an email to see if they fit in the 40. I am going to run purigen, chemipure and filter floss. In which order is the best way the put them in the basket?
I'm really excited to be setting up this tank. I have a 14 gallon cube tank running for @ 8 years so this is an upgrade for me.

Congrats! Nice to hear Marine depot was good to you. As an aside I have dealt with Brian at IM and he is a great guy to deal with. I have both chemi and purigen, and to be honest, have only be using floss so far. I don't have either of those skimmers but have heard the Tunze is very good. Hopefully others chime in. In terms of light, when I do get a chance to spend some money, I will get the Kessil.

Good luck and can't wait to see the build!

One word and one word only. When I say one word, I really mean only one word. Not like two or three words that sound like one word because someone's trying to be funny. I really only mean one word.

Kessil. ;)

I have a few questions... Which Kessil would I get for a 40g cube? How would I hang it? Those of you that are using a Kessil, what do you use for moonlight? What about a timer? I was really looking for something that has more capabilities like dimmable and a timer, but I will definately keep this light in mind. Any other suggestions?

M4rz How do you have your baskets set up in the back with the floss, purigen and chemipure? Are you using 2 baskets set up identical, or just the one?

I will at some point be going with the 350w or 360w and it will be controlled by my apex. Right now, I have the stock baskets with an elastic holding them together and floss on the top. They are together in the right chamber of my tank. Once my bio load increases I will add the others - floss (at the top), then purigen (middle), then chemi pure (bottom). Bare in mind, I am new to SW, so hopefully some more experienced reefers will give their thoughts.

Vlapinta, as far as your skimmer goes, IMO I would go with the tunze. Now I will say, that I've never used either, however, I know tunze has great products all around. Not that hydor doesn't have good products, but I know their nano skimmer, the slim skim (if that's what you're considering) does require a specific water depth (I think about 12") for it to work. It fills with an overflow not unlike those on out tanks. So if you don't have adequate water depth in the back compartment, the hydor won't work.
As far as your intank media baskets, i am using the custom caddys. As a temp setup, I have the included yellow sponges on both sides to catch any large particulate, the on one side I have BRS rox .8 carbon in a media bag (will be replaced with the IM mini reactor). On the other side I have a few bioballs and the included green phosphate pad (will be replaced with the magnafuge led and chaeto.
I think this setup will get me a decent filtration system. I'll probably tweak it a bit once I get everything. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know!

OK, so back to skimmer problems...Last I said I was sending the IM skimmer back. I had a last minute change of heart and decided to give it one more try thanks to some of you doing the same thing.

I am happy to report that it seems to be working fine now (two months into it) and that my problems (not skimming and overflowing) seem to be over. Both IM and Marine Depot customer service were superb in their efforts to help me out and stand behind their product.

Please let me know how you refrain from buying more stuff, my wife is starting to get upset.

Is the difference between the Kessil 350w and the 360w?

The A350W has two dials: blue spectrum/intensity & white spectrum/intensity. When you turn one down, you lose intensity.

The A360W also has two dials: blue/white spectrum & intensity. You can adjust your spectrum, while not losing or gaining intensity.

With the A360W, you have the ability to "daisy chain" multiple fixtures to make adjustment easier when having more than one, and also they work with Neptune Apex controllers, to allow ramp up/down and dawn dusk spectrum control as well.

I read about boosted light output too, but I don't know for sure. I don't know what else.

Oh and just wanted to let you know, the guys at BRS are doing great on working with me. Thy replaced the first skimmer no problem. The second one, however, was missing the collection cup lid. They got another sent out to me which should arrive tomorrow. They were really cool about getting me taken care. Instead of sending the second one back and waiting for all the shipping and processing to take it's course, they just sent out a third and I send back the one with the missing lid. Hopefully I have better luck with it

Innovative Marine Skimmer producing microbubbles

I have a Nuvo 16 with the IM skimmer. Is there a mod to reduce microbubbles. The tank has been up for about give months.
Thanks

Fist attempt at aquascaping. I am waiting till the end of the week when my lfs gets in branch rock to put under this and raise it up a little and make some cool caves... The rock on the left, towards the back, is only staying for a while till the tank cycles. It is from an existing tank. I needed it till I get the branch rock to keep the other rock stable. What do you think so far?

I just ordered my light. I decided to go with the Razor. I considered the Kessil, and it came down to the Kessil or the Razor. I decided to go with Razor, I was able to get it at a great price, and that included the mount. I also like having the controls built in. I still have to decide on a skimmer and some wave makers

Stuff some filter pads in between the skimmer compartment and the return pump compartment. Won't eliminate all, but drastically reduces the bubbles.
