Official Innovative Marine Owners Thread

The Tunze come's with a 3/4"/1" hose barb fitting, but I just bought a 3/4"NPT to 1/2" Barb and used that instead. The IM pump seems to be slightly smaller than 1/2" though, not sure the exact size..

This is a great thread! I'm looking to get a 16G Nuvo, add the spin streams, SkimMate nano skimmer and possibly the SkkyeLight LEDs (When I can afford them. LOL!) with about 20lbs LR, live sand.

My stock list:

Scarlet Skunk cleaner shrimp
Maybe a Blue Tuxedo Urchin - not sure yet though

I haven't made up my mind on which clownfish pair to go with;

Either Ocelleris Clownfish pair (Orange and B&W)
OR
Fiji Barberi Clownfish pair

Coral choices:

Frogspawn
Rics
Zoas (BamBam Orange, Yellow Face & Purple Hornets)
Duncan
Candy Cane - If I have room
And possibly Fox Coral (if I have room for it. hehehe...)

Hey,

I've decided to set up an IM Nuvo 30g reef tank in my bedroom and your advice with 3 questions.

1. Is the JBJ Unibody 54w LED fixture a strong enough light for LPS and softies in this tank? if not, what would you suggest?

2. What internal skimmer should I get, i want the most silent and clean one possible?

3. What kind of mess, stink and noise level should I expect? Its going to be place on a reinforced desk, I want it completely self contained.

any guidance would be much appreciated!

thanks

My 38 IM

Has anyone put a sump in their IM 38gal stand? I know there is a center brace. I was wondering if anyone has not installed the center brace for there stands?

Thanks for any info

Andy

Dosen't adding a sump defeat the purpose of having an AIO?

One could say that, or it could be looked at as enhancing the AIO. There are a lot of posts with people using sumps with their red sea max 130s and 250s. I have a limited amount of space. I would like to maximize the amount filtration I can get. If putting a sump in the stand helps me achieve this goal then so be it.

I'm still in the research stage of using a sump with the IM 38.

My question still stands, anyone using a sump in their IM 38 stand?

Thought I would introduce myself.
I've got a Nuvo 38 with 24' ecoxotic LED(6x19w and 4 stunner strips), IM skimmer, 2Koralia 1's. I'm going for a predominately softy tank with most shrooms and leathers. My last tank was mostly SPS/LPS. I'm looking forward to this tank progressing without constantly having to monitor calcium. Like a lot of people I'm running a fuge in one of the chambes with the IM 6w suction cup light.
I currently have a Bangaii Cardinal, 2 small clowns, goby w/shrimp, bulb anem., cherub angel, 4 peppermints, 20 hermits, 30 mixed snails.

I will try and upload some pics soon.

Sounds great! Have some pics?

I am just getting a Nuvo 38 started. Hope to get water, substrate, and LR tomorrow.

My Equipment:

Hydor SlimSkim Nano
Maxspect Razor 120w 10000k
150w heater

I am planning on running one of the media baskets as well as my protein skimmer. I am also leaning towards a MP-10 for water movement.

Very Nice. I almost went with the Razor but ended up with the Vega, post some more pics once you have it up and running!

I got my skimmer today, the new Tunze 9004. I can confirm that it fits nicely in one of the outside rear compartments. (if anybody else is wondering) It's only been running for an hour or so but it's producing nice foam. I'll post pics and update later once it's broke in.

How are people attaching the float switches for auto top off?

I am downsizing from a 120 to a 39 and 16. 39 will be mixed, 16 will be a Ricordia garden. The 39 comes with the dimable dual strip LEDs. I haven't seen many reviews on them. Anyone know if they are strong enough for Lps? Will the lights that come with the 16 be enough for rics? I wish they sold that tank separately.....could move the dual strips to that one and get different lights like the jbj unibody for the 39.

I just have to press the checkout button........ :)

I'm thinking of getting the tunze 9004, are you still getting good results with the skimmer? Could post up a picture of the placement please?

I received my 38 on Tuesday, filling it now for leak test. I'm still a long way out from getting tank setup. I hope to get the rock cooking this weekend.

I have given up on the idea of trying to integrate a sump.

Yeah, it's a great skimmer! Mine seems to be 'broke in' now and is skimming out a cup of dark skimmate a day. It hides nicely in the back of the Nuvo38g and the top of the collection cup dosen't even stick out above the tank. I'll post a pic but won't have time until the weekend. A bigger collection cup would have been nice but that's about my only negative. Easy to set and forget. (other than the daily empty of the cup) It might slow down some once my tank ages a bit, it's still just going through the final algae phase of cycling.

So I found some time to take some pics...

Tank Shots, 6 Weeks after starting. Algae was rampant on week 3-5 and it is now 1/2 of what it was last week. Should be eliminated with in 2 more weeks, die of is steady and cleanup crew is cleaning, lol.

Psyire,

Thank you for the pics of your tank and skimmer. Your tank looks great, nice aquascaping.
