Has anyone thought of putting the skimmer in the center so that mechanical sponges can be used on both sides. I don't know if that would create too many micro bubbles. I would just like less particles floating around and thought dual sponges would help.

Suppose you could if you have an ATO. Although the return lines may get in the way. I did away with my skimmate. It just wasnt pulling enough junk to justify the noise and always having to adjust it. I feel i benefit more from the use of dual filters with consistently replacing the filter floss i use in the baskets and a 10% water change every week.

Most recent pic.
Working on purchasing a new camera. The phone camera just isnt cutting it.

I was able to get my 50lbs of base rock in to some salt water today. In about 8 weeks I should be able to put it in the tank. The ball has started to roll.

Very nice looking setups srb5046th & BeachBurn

srb5046th I'm sure I've seen a video on the web of setup with the skimmer in the middle section, might be worth a little goggling.

Hey apw63... I have a Nuvo 38 and I did put in a whole sump with refugium, large Bubblemagnus skimmer, etc. After some time of experimenting with various chemistry theories, I am basically now running Zeolites on a 3 hour on/off cycle and a carbon reactor. (Hence the need for the sump!) The Zeolite system, in addition to the chaeto & other macro algae, allows me to have near perfect water chemistry despite relatively heavy feeding. I ended up trashing the matching cabinet opting instead to use a sturdy bath cabinet which I reinforced. I ended up adding almost 17 gallons of capacity with the sump. The only down side is that there is more noise due to the movement of water... the coral and fish seem happy tho' =D!

Very cool thank you for the info! Did you ever run the sump in the matching stand before trashing it? I was thinking at one point of pulling the center support and reinforcing the stand. What are you using for an overflow to the sump? Would you be able to post some pictures?

Hey BeachBurn- whats that branching LPS coral you have on the lower right of the tank(looks kind of blueish in the picture). Also is that a coral beauty angel? I had a Cherub angel in mine until it died yesterday-I don't know why-it looked fat and healthy.

I believe you are talking about my duncan coral. Has only been in the tank a couple days. Yes it is a Coral beauty. Its funny I never really see it eat but he remains healthy.

I recently brought the Nuvo line into my store, so we set up their 16g on our fish room counter as a nano display.

Sorry for the poor cell phone photos. Mods so far are replacing the stock filter media with filter floss, and adding Purigen, ROX 0.8 carbon, GFO and Chemipure Elite. Still using the stock return pump. I swapped out the 8w LEDs for their 24" 26w dual dimmable LED strip. Stocked with a variety of nice corals, and the photos obviously don't really do the tank justice. I may look into adding an MP10 and ATO at some point, but we'll see.

I don't use the corners for the skimmer. I had the Innovative Marine Midsize in the second chamber from the right even though they say to put it in the corner. I have now moved the Midsize to my new 30 JBJ rimless and bought a Aquamax HOB 1 which is also running in the second chamber. I made a filter plate for my right hand corner and have a fuge right below it, works out great. I run filter floss material over the sponges on both side which I clean every morning and the sponges underneath never get dirty, works great.

I'm running the desktop sized skimmer in the right side and chaeto in the left. Completely removed all filter media and have 0 issues.

Update.

Update.

Just wanted to update my tank's progress here as well. I think it's important to add that this tank is really super just as is. I haven't had to add any flow or change the main pump and everything is starting to grow well. My Oregon Tort is encrusting, I have coralline algae on the back wall, and my Tubbs Blue Zoos seem happy. I will say that the light my Dad gave me is great. I don't really understand what it means but he tested the lights and said I have 700 PAR at top and 200 at the bottom which I guess is good. Also we added a Two Little Fishies reactor with PO4x4 to the back and that cleared up the slime algae on the sand plus my Dad explained "vodka dosing" to me and now I'm adding 1ml a day of NOPOX as well. Anyways, just an checking in and saying "Hi" :)

Tank is looking great! Thanks for the update!

My tank must be doing alright as well because my 2 cleaner shrimp and a few red hermits molted over the past couple days.. I'm thinking about running the CADlights Nano BioPellet reactor on my tank.. is anyone using biopellets on their Nuvo tank(s)?

Took a few more pictures of the corals and tank today with my better camera; they came out much better than the last bunch of poopoo cellphone pictures.
