I ordered my Nuvo 38 along with the IM stand to go with it from Foster Smith the other day. I had heard bad things about the stand but thought I would try it since it was designed for this tank. I was shocked at how low quality the stand is.
First off the box had obviously been opened before and had been taped back up poorly with IM tape. While unpacking the fiberboard panels I found chipped corners and scratches on every single piece that I took out of the box. And let me tell you this is the lowest quality fiberboard out there. I can't imagine how much it would bloat out if it got even slightly wet.
I immediately called Foster Smith and they're refunding my money.
I am now very concerned about the quality of the tank itself based on this Made in China stand.
I just want to warn anyone out there considering buying this stand to not do it. Buy an all wood stand from your LFS or have one made. It is obvious that IM did not put much thought into designing their stand. It isn't worth $50.

Hey everybody. I installed Spin Streams on my Nuvo 38 today and boy are they noisy. It sounds like a little helicopter is landing in my tank. Does anyone know if this sound might lessen as they break in? I kind of really hate them right now. Which is sad because in theory they are a great idea. Pricey too.

Hey guys, nice tanks of everyone. I´m considering buying the 16 gal nano, but I wonder which skimmer and light set up you buy. Do you buy the IM skimmer? and what about the lights? does the lights that come with the tank are good to grow LPS´s?

So had a freshwater Angelfish tank, turtle tank, and a blood parrot tank. Finally graduated college got a good job and now have the funds to get a saltwater tank! So I went with this AIO setup...
Pulled the trigger on a Innovative Marine Nuvo 38 Gallon Reef Kit. Just got done setting up the stand, tank, light, powerheads, and heater.
Tank contains:
30 lbs Nature's Ocean Live Sand
35 lbs of live rock from LFS
35 gallons of Petco premixed saltwater
150 watt Aqueon Pro Heater
2 sets of mechanical sponge, activated sponge and phosphate sponge
2 - 500 gph Aqueon circulation pumps
Day 2 water testing results:
Calcium: 440 mg/l
KH: 9 dkh
Phosphate: 0.25 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
Salinity: 1.024
Realized I don't have an ammonia test...

Hows the MINIMAX? I want one pretty bad! ATO questions for cheap buy the Tunze NANO i love it on mine... and lighting i love my reefbreeders photon 16 for 320 bucks cant beat it!

1 diamond goby/candy pistol pair
Orange sea star
Hermits/ceriths/Nassarius Snails
Mixed Reef of LPS/SPS
Equipment -
Replaced stock pump with a Sicce 1.5. The BEST mod I have done so far to this tank. Slightly more gph, and it's QUIET!
IM Skimmate Skimmer (loudest piece of equipment I have - annoying!)
In-Tank Refugium (Chaeto)
In-Tank Media Basket (Filter floss, purigen, chemi-pure elite)
200w Heater
Avast ATO system
Neptune Apex Lite w/pH Probe
Radion Gen 2
First Gen Vortech Mp10
Weekly water changes keep the parameters in check. Will have to start dosing 2-part in a few months as the corals grow.

Questions for the nuvo owners -
If you own a IM Nuvo skimmer how did you get the thing to quiet down? Mine produces about a half cup of dirty skimmate each week, but it's the loudest piece of equipment I have. Tempted to try the tunze 9004.
Also, are you running an open top? Or are you keeping the lid on?
I have kept the lid on mine for awhile, but took the top off today. I like it better, but worry about any fish jumping.

I have the top off of my tank, don't have fish in it yet but so far I like it because of the rate the water evaporates. I also have the skimmer, mine isn't too loud; try to put it further in the water and adjust your air valve to accommodate. You kind of have to mess with the skimmer to get the proper skim, I have my bubbles just below the gasket top. I filled the top up the first day I had it and have been just adjusting it down from there (now has been running for 5 days and has about an inch of nasty water in it).
Anyone run the Minimax AIO Midsize Nano Reactor? I just received mine in the mail and I'm trying to figure out what media to place in it?

Hello all. Picking up a IM 38 next week. My first tank ever and this forum has been great help on info I need. Still deciding on LED to get between the Panoramic Pro, Razor, or JBJ 54. Tough choices!! Keep posting those pics everyone this is making my final choice easier looking at your setups.

Did any of you that ordered the stand for the Nuvo 38 get the tank tray? Or does it come with the tank? Just putting it together and making sure I got all the pieces and that piece is missing from the box.

Thanks Andy. Yeah just found out they stopped coming with them because of the material it was made with once the water got to it, it got ruined. People started complaining so they just stopped making the part.

This was the 2nd broken tank I've been sent so far. UPS is really disappointing me

This was the 2nd one to come broken. The first one UPS didn't even try to leave it at my door they broke it so bad. This time, they said screw up at left it at my door anyways. Such an inconvenience for me. I requested Dr F & S send it fedex this time. Fingers crossed!

I had the exact same problem. I bought my tank a month ago at my LFS. The first one shipped was broken. They ordered another one and that one was broken as well. Couldn't believe it. UPS was delivery company both times. They ordered a third and it came in yesterday. Looks good so far. I haven't really inspected it yet but quick look and no problems. I talked to someone at IM and they were very apologetic about the situation. Great company and made me feel like they were actively dealing with the shipping issues with UPS. Feel sorry for them in a way because it isn't really their fault.
