Pics??? I have been thinking about modding mine.

What does the 2011.5 mean?

It will be difficult to take a pic honestly. I'll give it a try tomorrow...

And you know, 2011.5 is when the world is thrown into turmoil. You must be using a different Bible than I!

I actually use the bible quite often. In fact I had a scripture as my sig until RC took it off for some reason. I still don't get the reference though.

Gabriel, scriptures are not allowed on RC. You should have been informed by the moderator when it was changed.

2011.5 sounds like a Tunze model number to me. ;)

They are working fine. Matter of fact, I'm getting a new one this week to replace the beta model I've been running since January of last year. Tim wanted to take it apart and see how it held up for 18 months of usage (well, 16 months).

that's cool. Is your display glass or acrylic? I am still having to run them well below 100% due to overheating and I have a couple that are stalling at least once per day.

Jonathan

You are still having troubles with your VorTechs!???

I only have one but besides a bearing it has run well. A stall a day is just crazy. They should, outright, replace those for you. JMO

Hope that works out as they are great pumps!

Well, they have essentially replaced or refurbed all th eparts. All of them have been recently refurbed and they no longer make noise but now I have this stalling issue. I am really happy with the noise reduction but still stymied by the overheating and now stalling. I got a message from Eco-Tech telling me that the Vortechs were designed to run at an ambient temp. of 72F and that my tank room temp. would push them beyond spec. I can only run them between 2/3 and 3/4. This PH experience really has been a major screw-up and I may have to install HVAC just to run them at full speed, which will negate my energy savings of buying them in the first place.

On a side note, we had a warm day today and my tank room got too warm. My snail grow out reached 85F near the bottom and 88F at the surface.

My display tank hit 81.5F...I guess pulling the glass out of the T5 array actually made things worse! I need to clean the bugs off my input vent!!

My tank is glass.

If your tank room is as humid as I think it is, that could be one of the main reasons yours are acting up. My VHOs refused to turn on today at all, even as late as 9pm with the lights on for 9+ hours. The humidity just keeps the off.

I've been told some of the VorTechs will stall during the first two days, which mine did but ever since they've worked fine. I'm guessing yours are not nearly that new, correct?

Yup, I had the exact same problem with the humidity in my wetroom. I upped the exhaust fan and nipped the problem in the bud...

Oh and by the way (for humor sake)... When you were out we were discussing how water tight our wetrooms are. Long story short is that I got some new programs and have been glued to the puter for a while. Not a good thing when I'm running a ghetto set up for RO/DI and salt water mixing. Lets just say that I know my wetroom will hold about 20 gallons of water... Actually a lot more, but I caught the flood at the 20 gallon mark:lol:

Is that all? :D I dump 50 gallons on a regular basis. Runs right out the garage and down the driveway.

Yeah Marc, that is why I think you have been having more success with the Vortechs. My tank is 3/4 acrylic and seems to be at the outside edge of their performance ability. My refurb units are a year old or so, but newly refurbed in the last 2 months. Another one was stalled this morning.

I opened the AC vent in my tank room this morning and raised the grow-out tank lamp. I will have to do some work on my venting and lamps this afternoon.

Hop, welcome to floodsville! And please, keep your flood stories to 50g and over on this thread...I mean really, 20g? Please, my RO/DI system sweats 20g! :D

On a serious note, I am concerned about tank room temp. due to the fact that we haven't hit Summer yet. I was really impressed last Summer that the tank and room did really well, but since then I have added some powerful fuge lighting and other heat related items. You should have seen the look on Steve's face when he saw the Vortech-crazed acrylic on my tank!

not yet. I was very impressed with myself for having built a system that didn't require AC, so I am going to work on it a bit more and see if I can keep it as low in electrical usage as I can.

Any recommendation for one?

I have a Fujitsu located in my office (cooling only). With 3 tanks, lights and chillers located in the same room, it does one heck of a job. Very efficient.

Sorry, it's the first water tight room I built. Guess I got a little excited:lol:

Goodwin9: That family looks so happy! :D Thanks for the link. I am starting to research tank room cooling and possibly dehumidifying.

Hop: Just trying to keep you grounded. ;)

I'm looking at a stand alone unit now that does ac in the summer and dehumidifies in the winter. Basically I can keep it cool and vented in the summer and then in the winter when I want to be cautious as to how much cold air I'm introducing, I can use the dehumidifying capability. Or so it looks good on paper right now:D
