STOP! your killing your tank if anything leave your lights on for twice the photo period allw the alge to grow and run its course. siphen it off corals ONLY untill it seems ot have reached a peak then try removeing it in ONE large water change. more than likely you have been feeding your fish some CRAP like formula one daily. feed fish only every three days and only as much as they will take from your hands! they will be fine eating copapods and such. also stop doing water changes they are not as helpfull as everyone would have you belive. and replace your ro filters more often its THE most important thing to a reef tank.

That is an interesting concept, plumb. How long have you been in the hobby, and why does your 90g have cheese in it?

IT'S NOT ALGAE. Formula One? I don't think so. I have been siphoning it and blowing it off for over a month. RO membranes are brand new. And I would say light, flow, temperature, and filtration are all ahead of RO membranes in terms of importance to a reef.

Jonathan, why respond to a troll?

Not enough to drink. :(

Been working day and night on my store database. Discovered today that I have 1108 items in the candy department alone. I have to edit every item to get them in the right class and sub-class for our new web cart....

Inventory is over 15,000 items and once I am done with this, I need to do descriptions and photos...My mind is mush.

Man...I leave you an opening and you still miss it.

The correct answer was...I respond to you don't I? :D

Hire someone to help you. Don't you have a local college that offers a photography or marketing course? You could give a kid some OJT and get some cheap labor.

Im not a troll damn it! nothing is more important than the quality of water you start with. if the light makes it grow feed it till its mature then remove. it will consume all of whatever else it feeds on and wont be able to further itself. if you try to take it out sooner you will only take the part you CAN see.like soap and water to bond oil. it is helping you by bonding itself to the offending compound exploit it, use it as a tool to get rid of what you cant test for. sorry to sound like an *** but I guess i am. just trying to help with what has worked in the past. im not some 13 year old with nothing better to do, Ive had many years of trial and error.

Brad

Have you read the "3 days of darkness" thread, Brad? If not, you might be surprised how several have succeeded in eliminating some nuisance items (cyano bacteria & diatoms) without medicating the tank.

BTW, that's not a bad suggestion. My buddy that owns a kayak shop has a team of kids running his web site...

And Brad, I understand your point, but again, this is NOT algae. It's dinos, and it's toxic to my snails. There are numerous threads about erradicating dinos and I fully realize that killing it off doesn't neccessarily fix the underlying problem. But, I know what the underlying problem is, and the multiple events that led to the outbreak. I have fixed the issues that led to the outbreak, and am in the process of changing my aquascape, skimmer, and flow to ensure it doesn't happen again.

lights back on today. I don't notice any major issues with the corals. the ones that were fine before are still fine. As far as the dinos go, I see at least a 50% reduction in population. I consider that a decent succes.

I will run the lighting for a couple of days and see what happens, and I will put an hour break in the middle of the day.

Hey thanks for everything today Jonathan! Meeting your family was a total riot! I would be happy to make an eductor for you at 1". I couldn't be happier with the 3/4" models I've tested on my 90 and I'm sure the 1" versions will work just as well. Talk at ya tomorrow!

yeah well, that's what a load of meds will do to you. Sorry about the scene at the restaurant. I really thought I had locked the door!!

Looked at the tank today when the first light came on and those damn dinos really are a pain. What is interesting is that they are drastically reduced and I am very happy with the results of the couple of days with no lights. But, they will re-coat a rock overnight. Anyway, I am doing some siphoning today and will transfer some frags into the display as well.

My skimmer is going wild today and has shut down 3 times already due to the bucket getting filled up. Temps are stable and I have a one hour nap in the middle of the lighting schedule.

Corals look fine. I am looking forward to getting past this and continuing to hone my skills and make equipment adjustments. Isn't this fun?? :p

At least I didn't have what happened to Ed (invincible569) yesterday. Wow, that would really kill me.

Nevermind I found his thread. Yikes there goes the weekend for sure. One more reason why I would never do a closed loop

I hear ya on that D. Have I shown you the burn spot on my return line from the fire I had? I nearly lost my whole system...if I were to do a tank again, it would not have ANY holes in it.
