alright i have decided to do a sps dominated tank! there will be a couple of lps and a few softies(no leathers) so i was wondering how does this sound

29 gallon tank
250 watt mh(20 k)
25 pounds of live rock
30 pounds of live sand
200 watt heater
sumpless
reactorless
skimmerless
 ;)
and or flow i dont know if this will be enough but 2x maxijet 1200s
thanks for the input
for live stock the fish i know im getting are:
a cinnimon and tomato clown pair ( thanks rbdesigns!)

and the possibility list would be something like this(not all fish will be in at the same time!):
pygmy angel
clown goby
scooter blenny
bicolor blenny
flame angel
yasha hase goby
yellow watchman goby
and more to come..

I would suggest, less fish, and a sump, skimmer.

Reasons:

Fish: 2-3max, lower nutrient load on such a small tank ie: cleaner pristine water, and less water changes.

Sump: Other than hiding the equipment, to ease the addition of new water, additives so as not to have a localized spike and RTN your SPS. Room to expand.

Skimmer: kinda required equipment for SPS IMO

Oh yeah, you live in Fallbrook.......Chiller?

Once you see some of your really nice encrusted ones peel off before your eyes, the money saved on less than adequate equipment doesn't matter much.

yeah i would only have maybe 1-2 of the possible fish and im probably going to move to long beach soon so it should be a lot cooler there so no chiller, as for a sump i dont know how to drill or plumb a or anythng so thats why im not doing a sump ,but i might find a good deal on a full set up and then i would do that and keep my light, and if i get a sump i will eventually get a skimmer

buy a reef ready All-glass or Oceanic tank. If you have the tank already, CPR makes hang on overflows. Long Beach is cooler.....

skimmer and sump are good things to get, 2 fish at the time is good, and 2 mj 1200 is good but when your corals start to growing you may want to get more flow, a good think you can do then is mod your mj1200 and get some crazy flow in there, i have 2 mj 600 mod in my tank and push more water than my seio 820
just my .02c

Gabriel

ok well i set up the tank(had to hold back from geting any sps yet
but instead of getting the maxi jets in got a seio 820 and i might get another soon
any suggesion?

You don't have sufficient export mechanism. I don't know the dimension of your tank but it is likely your sandbed cannot be qualified as DSB due to its size.

Also you should get a chiller unless you live in a very cold area.
