Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

 Yes, looking at the tank it's hard to believe that at least 95% of the coral in there came out of my 130 gallon and the 8 or so other pieces were being stored in my frag tank. When setting up a new tank you know you're in trouble when you have to place some corals on the sandbed because there is no room left on the rock work.

Thanks to you and this thread, I now have no desire to ever upgrade again. What's the point?

Man I wish I had my upgrade look so packed instead the person holding my sps lost just about everything and all I have left are frags almost a waste of a upgrade lol

Thanks you guys.
Leonardo_ Looking very good Greg, what made you decide to go for a MH+T5 combination?
Thanks, I like the pop of the T5's and the intensity of the HQI halides and since I already had the MH's I thought a combo would be the way to go. I am quite happy with how the lighting looks so far.

As far as the tank being full already that is because I'm a coral hound and pack rat so I always have to keep everything I get:D
I also prefer the fuller more natural look versus the "fruit stand" appearance so I tend to pack things in. When it grows in I will be happy..... when it grows in too much I'll once again have a problem. I think there is enough room that it should be a few years before I have to get aggressive with culling corals. (famous last words)

Good gravy Greg! That is one full looking tank. I second the "I can't believe all that came out of your 130". Looks fantastic though!! Loving the rockwork. Gotta see it in person one day! :D

Congrats on the upgrade, pretty spectacular

Sorry to hear that. Most of mine were started as frags so I'm sure it won't be long before yours grow out and fills in the empty spaces. Good luck. Upgrades are never a waste, my fish don't know what to do with all that extra room they have to swim in now.

Thanks Christy.

Looks great!

Can I ask you a MH question, have you ever tried SE bulbs? I'm trying to find a good comparison between SE vs HQI from someone I trust.

What was the total time on transfering everything over?

:eek1: :eek2: :eek1:

OK, after I picked my jaw off the floor all I wanna do is

Looks fantastic Greg, holy cow man!

I never knew you had a Chaetodontoplus meridithi either, great looking fish :D

Very nicely done Greg! Can't wait to see the rest of the construction!

Any chance we could get some pics from either end to show up much space there really is? :D :D

Ha..ha.... Unless you happen to have slower growing coral, I'll bet on 1 year at the most and you'll have them killing each other all over the place. Frags for everyone!

Thanks Catherine. The difference between HQi & single ended bulbs in my opinion is quite dramatic. The HQI are more intense.
For transfer time I started blending the water from the new & old over a period of 3 weeks. I then did a test with rock from my sump, corals and some chromis' for a week. Once I started with the actual transfer I worked my tail off and did it over 3 days.

RParker Ok, seriously. You need to slow down your making me look bad! Looks amazing Greg!
Thanks

Thanks Austin, Yes I am very happy with the meridithi. He seems happier now since the move. He spent a while in my frag tank waiting for his new home to get finished.

Thanks,
sure I'll take some more pictures ASAP.
