one frogspawn not good; everything else good

I have an 8 gal biocube. All corals are doing well and thriving except one frogspawn. Its polyps are starting to shrink and recede. Another frogspawn (different variety) is just 7 inches away and is thriving, getting huge. Both have the same flow, under same light. Any ideas? It was doing really well until about a month ago. Then one head was shrinking and now the other.

Have you tested you water? How often do you water Change? What is the temp on the tank, and how much does it move? Do you have an ato or just top off manually? Using rodi water right?

Sometimes different species of frogspawn will be happy under different situations say the one that's thriving enjoys that spot and maybe the other one doesn't.

However, as Steven noted check your water parameters

Water params are good, 0 Nit/Nat/Phos/Am/Ph 8.2. Sometimes nitrates go to 10. dkh is a little low at 5. Temps stay solid at 79 with RKL, have ATO. Using RO (no di yet). RO water tests 10 ppm TDS.

What I don't get is everything is doing so well. The other frogspawn I got has quadrupled in size. The one that isn't doing well was doing well at first then the other one did great.

how about flow...? flow has to run through the tentacles and polyps evenly... if one colony doesn't get a good healthy flow, it's gonna go out... also... make sure that a polyp isn't shading another polyp... that will cause teh fail too...

Some corals die for no reason and some do great for no reason.

It's no different than dogs, cats, people... etc. etc. You could have 4 or 5 normal animals (siblings) in a litter (family) and a spastic (retard) also.

The mysteries of nature!

haven't tested cal/mag in a while. Cal is usually pretty high, almost off charts, and mag is a pain to test but last time was right on target (450 I think). Carbon is a good idea. I have some but no media bag. Can I use a pantyhose? Any other idea? Flow is very good. It's a tiny 8 gal nano with an upgraded pump with korila rotating head and a korilla nano head. There's plenty of flow. Die for no reason? I won't accept that!

Mag should be 1350-1500 not 450
Get you calcium and alk in line
Use carbon
Try to get beter top off water with less tds I bet you have a phosphate issue.

My cal / alk / mag are all low and my frogspawn are thriving. Thus, I'd think it was something else that is bothering the coral. Do you have any other coral nearby that might sting one frogspawn but not the other?

If you know something is low why would you leave it?? It can not be thriving in conditions like that.
It may look like it but it's not

Mag is 1450, not 450 (sorry, I know it was close to perfect.) I don't know how to raise dkh. Everything else is perfect. No phosphates. Can I use pantyhose for carbon?
