One of my saddest days in reefing

Well I did read the whole thread and can't believe some of the inopportune (and obvious hidden agenda for one) feedback. One word man - "tacky"

Some of you folks really know how to knock out a guy on weakened knees already and you weren' even in the fight LOL - jeez get a life! Let the guy recover and let him decide what's best for himself in his own time and not you forcing it down his throat at the wrong time. Don't add to the already great dismay - Widow bashers are what you are

Hugo,

I'll try to make it down with Tacocat in a few weeks. If it is not too late take lots of pictures of your losses and speak to a tax advisor/accountant on how to write this loss off. I'm sure you'll at least be able to write off a significant amount since you should be able to consider your reef as a business asset and claimed as your brood colony system and display (it was a source of income.)

personally i think (IMO Only) the topic of what went wrong and how it could have been avoided or possibly prevented NEEDS to be discussed to help prevent ppl in this hobby (using the word "hobby" lightly) from making the same mistakes (if any mistakes were made)...

but the place for that topic to be discussed IS NOT HERE... this thread was set by a person who was strong enough to share his painful experence. There is no need to add insult to injury or pour salt on an open wound

Hi guys,

I just want too tell one of my bad experinces of my lifeabout reefing. I have a crashed tank because we lost electricity for two days, we just got it back tonight around ten o'clock and i lost all my sps everything and I want too ask if I could sue Southern California Edison becuase I called them yesterday around 7:00 p. m. asking them if they were going to put the electricity bakc and they told me yes around 10:00 p.m. but nothing we just got electricty tonight so they lied to me what could I do,

Thank you for your help

also thank you Mario and Allen for your help

Hugo
I am so sorry for your loss, but the fact is that you will have a very hard time trying to sue them, accidents happen and this was a very sad one at that. They did not mean for the power to go off and i am sure they tried as best as they can to turn it back on, b/c if the power is off they make no money but in fact loose money, so i am sorry to say that you have no legal stand against them. I have just read your post and not the rest of the thread, once again i am sorry for your loss. And if there is legal action that you are a loud to take good luck with trying to get your money back.

Hugo,

We live close. If you need any help rebuilding, let me know. I am pretty new, so I don't really have any corals you didn't save. But if you need coral storage, my frag area is all yours. If you just need a strong back, let me know as well.

Take care and good luck rebuilding,

Shane

very sorry to hear about ur loss just like the rest of us reefers we all seem to worry about something like that happening to our tanks....

i dont live awfully close to u but if u need anything as in way of frags let me know i have some cool things

the stress of power outages made me buy a battery backup which should keep my return pump on for around 5+ hours im hoping and i have a generator but id have to be home to turn that on....

im goin to vegas this weekend and the stress of something like that happening would be absolutely horrible....

Hugo,
Sorry to hear of your loss. I do beleive that you have enough friends around to help you rebuild. If I can help, let me know. The loos of power always seems to hang over our heads. We just have to do the best we can with what we have available.

Good luck on recouping. Again my heart goes out to you and what was once, and WILL be again, a beautiful tank.

wow, your ignorance knows no bounds

I know, right?? It's kind of like the folks who blame the Katrina victims in the Superdome that they brought that upon themselves because they didn't evacuate. No matter the logic, stop the bickering and empathize.

Bui, you're from Westminster. Yuo could've extended a helping hand in terms of rebuilding. You didn't have to lecture him coz stuff you say are in the books. WE don't need to here this from you like an all-knowing. It doesn't make you righteous, even if you think you're right. Just wrong place at the wrong time for your comments, bro.

Sometimes empathy comes with age. The confidence of youth sometimes take over.

for the sake of Hugo, I will end this argument about empathy here. Hugo wouldn't like us to argue over this either.

Hugo, I think that the two island is an awesome idea. I hope that you recover soon. Take your time, though. God bless.

Im talking about the emotional sting of hearing over and over how he killed all his animals and its all his fault and could have been prevented if he used his head.. It hurts.. have some class.. he obviously has learned something and so has everyone else that reads this thread. Im sure if you die diving your family will just love hering how it happened and what you did wrong to cause it. Yes people often say how they hope something is learned from it but I can tell you I would be over real quick hearing over and over about the death of my animals.. regardless of how..

I didn't post this to point any fingers at Hugo so don't get me wrong. My point was that if we analyze what happen maybe we can help save someone else tank. Yes people have talked about this and some have pointed fingers but we haven't really analyze the entire even. Hugo himself hasn't give much info on specifics and for this reason many people on this thread has made a lot of speculation of what he did or did not do. But if he doesn't want to talk about this then its his choice and we should leave it at that.

Now you're talking :). Let's respect the guy and save him the lectures. Learning from one another is one thing but lecturing one another like you are lecturing a child is something else. Its like a kid made a mistake and we are admonishing him for it. He's an intelligent adult like every else here (or so I would think . )

Under these circumstances, learning to prevent disasters should be left to other discussion and just so everyone knows you can write a whole book on fault tolerance, fail safe operation, and safety nets but in the end it'll be hard for anyone to cover it all. And to note I'd bet there are tons of threads here already on RC on how to mitigate such potential disasters.

So FWIW if not one issue toasts your tank, another awaits you so if it's not a generator that you missed its gonna be another that could destroy your pride and joy.

I'm sorry for the incident you got from the last couple months and now (someone hit/pump in your store and your tank is crash). Good luck on recouping.
