Onyx shortage?

So today i took some time off to find a place where to buy the onyx we want for our new system. After calling Rod's and looking online..i came across...NOTHING

Is there another place or breeder you guys know of i could get a pair from? Price isnt really a big deal..i know what onyx cost.

ClownReef® - There is a big debate about what is an onyx. Some say that the black coloration and black dorsal makes a true onyx. I'd just wait for Rod to start shipping again. Good luck on your search.

This is probably good advice.

To answer GSM's comment about bulk onyx, I've been on reefhotspot's mailing list for onyx for the past few months and just got an email for the first time last night that they were available, so I wouldn't call them "bulk" onyx based on that fact. But... these aren't WYSIWYG. I sent reefhotspot an email this morning asking for a picture of what exactly is available. No response so far.

I wouldn't order these unless you get a wysiwyg picture. There's just too much leeway in the onyx label.

I really hope that the mods don't delete this thread, given that the ebay auction linked isn't even for onyx percs in the first place, and it's an outrageous prices for B&W's at that.

Well GSM we will find out Tuesday. I wanted to order 6 but they had very limited quanities so hopefully all 3 will arrive alive and well. I plan on pairing one with my lone picasso. I post pictures when they come in. Im a little skeptical same as you but who knows.

P.S. I have a clutch of Onyx eggs suppose to hatch Tuesday night so Im keeping my finger crossed with them and if these new fish are true onyx then I guess Ill be a very lucky person.

I used to have the most amazing pair from Rods onyx...but unfortunately they didnt make it through a tank move..it still [profanity] me off when i think about it

Being from Los Angeles, I've checked out reefhotspot in the past when they've carried onyx's, and they were super nice! I'm pretty sure they were all wild caught, but the percs definitely had the black bands connecting all three stripes. Did not have the black dorsal, though, for you purists out there

In any case, since I asked, I do know that when they label "onxy" they definitely mean black bands connecting all 3 stripes.

Try Sustainable Aquatics. There a sponser on rc now & Matt has awesome onyx, IMO they are prettier than Rods & a little cheaper. Mine came from there.

-pics of your clowns?...the mated pair they have are solomon island percs and from what ive read the offspring dont all retain the onyx coloration also there mated pairs dont have a black dorsal so i dont know if you would still consider them "onyx"

i have question....i had a female about 6months old and then i added an older slightly bigger male.....could the female possibly changed to male since she wasnt fully mature?

males have to be smaller or they will try to dominate and become the female.

size difference is very important i would separate them and replace the male with either a smaller juvie or replace the female you had with the smaller juvenile clown
