Opinions are like belly-buttons; everyone has one. All of us certainly know that. With that said, my humble opinion is that the RC rules exist primarily to preserve the original intent of RC, specifically, to provide an educational & recreational reefing venue. It also has the added benefit of connecting all of us reefers with one another. How many friendships have been cultivated here exclusively because of RC? For me, many.
Although this next comment applies only to a select few, I nonetheless must say it is truly pathetic that this forum has had to tolerate more than it's share of adolescent behavior. What starts out as a simply valid question, something as simple as a fellow reefer soliciting our feedback about a deal he feels is questionable, quickly devolves into an all out mud-slinging war.
The people who instigate this pettiness do it for reasons that completely elude me. I have seen some fairly large barbs flying around here lately, thrown by people who have no business saying one thing or another about the thread in question. And most of the time it's not even what they're saying, it's just how they're saying it. Being rude and disrespectful for jollies I suppose. It's almost as if someone needs to buy them a can of business. Maybe then they'll mind theirs.
Redundancy aside, Anemone stands correct; we are all bound by the User Agreement. That's where the buck stops. There's no negotiating the UA, no constitutional guarantee's in fine print at the bottom. We are not extended the privilege of modifying, circumventing or ignoring the SIMPLE rules set forth here on RC. Most of us recognize and respect that. In fact, the majority of us do. For the lawyers amongst us, there's no case here. Only reefers.
Has this forum seen it's last mud-slinging fest? Absolutely not. Will a shady deal pop up every now and then? You betcha. And I'll say something else...We have a right to be informed about deals like that. It's our obligation to one another. Do I want the grief of dealing with Paul who just robbed Peter? But none of us, and you know who you are, has the right to start stirring the pot of dissension simply because you're annoyed by a fellow reefers pertinent queries/responses.
Cans of business now on sale...come get yours while they last.

I'm not going to add much to the dialog, here it has all been said. We are here to discuss reefing, if you can't do it respectfully to the people around you then it is time you MOVE ON. (Just a subtle hint to the Mods. )
Thanks for letting us have this forum. I know it seems to be more trouble then it is worth, but it is one of my favorite parts of this site, and I really appreciate you doing the extra work so those of us who do follow the rules can enjoy it.

I'd not be proud.
For some reason the flavor of the forum has evolved in the last couple of years into something that often leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It seems it exists now more for buying and selling than anything else. Rules that limit selling in other areas of RC are often overlooked here. Mods are expected to try and control the ongoing conflicts that seem to have developed. Many of the OFR have left the forum or at least rarely visit or contribute. That IMO is a loss to the rest of us.

47 U.S.C. sec. 230 gives most ISPs and message board hosts the discretion to keep postings or delete them, whichever they prefer, in response to claims by others that a posting is defamatory or libelous. Most ISPs and message board hosts also post terms of service that give them the right to delete or not delete messages as they see fit and such terms have generally been held to be enforceable under law.

Sad day isn't it when it comes down to something as trivial as this. Guess they have to cuss in their normal day to day dealings with people too.
It seems that the younger generation can't complete a full sentence without cussing nowdays. I wonder why. It will be interesting to see how they handle the real bussiness world.
