OPE or Orange Envy?

Ok i found a huge rock of what i thought/think are Orange People Eaters. When looking at the pics on ZOAID - The OPE's have a dark disk around the mouth and mine don't... I saw a few pics of the orange envy that look like mine as well. The pics i have are under 20k lighting, so the true orange doesn't show as well.

Soo, in your opinion, which one are these?...

Thanks Jun77, I got a great deal on it. The colony has 75+ polyps on it and the dealer gave me 2 free frags of SPS when i got this. I am ecstatic.

I just contacted a person that has the "Orange Envy" on his website and he told me the difference between the two were that the Orange Envy's don't have the purple/blue ring around the mouth and the skirts of them have 2 rows. I then sent a pic and confirmed it as looking like the Orange Envy. Thanks everyone for their inputs.

Here is another pic of a closeup of one of the polyps - as you can see there is no blue ring and the skirts have double rows.

All of my zoanthids/palys have double row skirts. I've seen those at my LFS. Nice score.

I am pretty sure he was legit. Oceaninabox.com - He also pointed me to discussion boards discussing the Envy Orange that describes them, which furthered my belief as to what i have.

Eklikewhoa, i can't see your pic since i am at work and i think they block photobucket. I will check it when i get home later tonight. Anyways, i also submitted it to Zoaid for posting/confirmation. I am 99.9% convinced that these are Envy Oranges. They may not be from the original 'named' colony, but they definetely look the same.

Could you send me the discussion boards you were referred to?

The argument with them right now is that "Orange Envys" can only be that if they could be traced back to the original person which named them......meaning any new wild collected/discovered should not be categorized as the same. Which IMO is kinda lame since they all had to come from similar origins.

That is the case for many people. Although, i believe the naming system is for the colors/structure of the zoa/polyp and not for the "single colony" that someone named, that was obviously taken from the wild at some point.

Could you imagine if something couldn't go by a certain name because it wasn't from the original 'named' colony. There would be a bazillion names out there.

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and looks like a duck - it's pretty obvious it's a duck.

My thoughts are that they are in fact EO and I have some. My other thoughts are no more high priced paly since they are coming in everywhere. I put them at the true RPE price range. IMHO.

Oh if anybody wants to send me a "true" EO with lineage. I'll do a side by side shoot. :D

RevHtree, i am with you on the price subject. I don't know why anyone would pay such a price in the first place. I think that anything over $50 a polyp is outrageous. I have a 75+ colony of them and will probably trade a bunch to for others to enjoy. I also want to start up an SPS only tank (I have all my zoas in a nano) - so i was going to try and trade some for that.

What is the "true RPE" price range anyways?
