Opinions on Coralife SS as HOB skimmer?

Hi all,

I just ordered a Coralife Super Skimmer 65 for use as a hang on back skimmer for my 50 gal... after reading more about it on the equipment forum i'm wondering if it was a wise purchase? From what I've read it seems to work fairly well as a skimmer, but I think it's ugly and noisy which would really suck.

Also, will this interfere with putting a canopy on my tank? It looks like it hangs pretty high above the tank... not sure if this will be an issue or not.

Does anyone have any experience with this skimmer? If so, please share! :) I already ordered it, so there's no turning back now... but please don't hold back (If it's awful, i want to know!).

Thanks!

I've heard only good things about this skimmer but they can easily overflow if the output gets clogged at all.

I have heard they are decent. One of the lfs here in stockton has them on their lr tanks and they seem to pull out alot of stuff.

there's a huge thread in the equipment part of the forum.. that has alot of mods you can do to make them run more efficiently. i was looking into these skimmers for my 30 when i first started it up but ended going with a euroreef.

Thanks for the replies. I found that big thread with all the mods after I had already posted this. It seems like most people feel that the CSS is pretty decent. I'll test it when it comes tomorrow and post my initial impressions.

Of course, it's my first skimmer so i'll have nothing to compare it with...

to help speed up the break-in of the skimmer, wash eveyrhting thing down w/ hot water to git rid of any residue from manufacturing that might still be inside the skimmer.

I have that skimmer! It took a while to hook it up correctly - and the instruction manual is wrong in a few places.. for example - the pump should only be an inch down into the water - not 8-9 inches the instructions say. There can also be some issues with the bubble diffuser. I made a mod for mine which works pretty well. If you need any help just pm me and i'll try and work with ya!

Thanks a bunch BenH, it's good to know I can get help when I (invevitably) need it.

You can probably expect a PM in the very near future :)
