Opinions on Nitrox cert

A reason not to go with operators that enforce group diving?

Agreed. I've always been lucky....The DM's usually ask questions gaging levels of competence early on. I kindly explain that I dive every damn weekend for the better part of the last 5 years and crack a joke about being a master-snorkeler, good for laughs.

I bring my photo rig with me, which always draws some gawks....little do they know its a poor boy setup.

With this said, I get a pass on having a buddy and get to lag behind the group a bit to take pics, or get paired with a loose DM who is kind enough to keep an eye out for nudo's or other photo ops.

An OWSI card helps. A photo finding DM would be a boon but infrequently available. Photographers are a pain to hang with.

Another great thing about nitrox diving, somehow you always get out of the water wide awake and ready for more doving

Well, I got the cert with CenoteXperience in Playa del Carmen. Had a great time, will definitely go diving with them again.

I have my nitrox cert and definitely appreciate it after a physically active dive. If you plan on doing a lot of diving i'd recommend it.

I don't notice any difference between diving nitric vs air as far as fatigue goes. Nitrox is quite useful in mid level dives because your nitrogen load is less. It is especially helpful if you are doing a bunch of mid level, 50'-100',in multiple dives per day. Nitrox is very popular on live aboards where one does 4 plus dives per day.

I have noticed that fatigue doesnt seem as bad on nitrox. Used it will diving in Roatan doing 4-6 dives per day and didn't get nearly as worn out as doing 3 dives with air. Would agree with others that it's better diving it when not in group dive, but I have seen people use it in group dive just because they say they don't feel as bad after the dive.
