Opinions on this Scopas Tang Aberration

I had it in my shopping cart tonight and chickened out during check out because the wife told me after i bought my birthday fish moorish idol and purple tang from divers den and my scribbled angel from phishy business that i could not buy anymore fish until after christmas (wife was/is at work so she would not of known until it was in the qt tank but its getting colder at nights and i dont want to compete with the neighbors dog for shelter at night

so to answer your question yes i would pay 500 bucks for it and yes i love the looks of it

I personally wouldn't. A Scopas is a scopas. I think I paid 49.00 for mine. I know, I know...it has different colorings. I would pay $500 for a rare wrasse but not a scopas. That's what's great about this hobby though. Everyone finds beauty in different things.

I thought it was quite unique. I did look at it with interest but have a few other fish that would be higher on my list in that price range. Yes, I would pay that if i had a tank big enough to house that and the others on the list.

While I find this fish to be beautiful for being different, I'm not too sure I would pay $499.00 for it. Yes I know there are many serious collectors who would....what do you think of it? WOuld you pay that premium?

No way! Sure it is a little more interesting than a normal scopas - but there are a lot more beautiful tangs you could get for far, far less than $500.

If I had the cash, I wouldn't mind, in the least, paying that kind of change for a truly unique fish.

However, that particular zebra, really looks like it should be put out of its misery, it's so ugly. Esp. with that bit of HLLE forming...

nice looking fish. its all about what u like n what u can handle. personally i think its an awesome fish. would i get it? no, other fish i'd rather have. at least , tank permitting.

i think its a good looking variant and if i had a big enough tank to house this plus all the other tangs that i would like i would buy it but i do agree 500.00 is a bit steep i would prefer the yellow koi tang over this guy ......

funny how we really do find beauty in different fish and would pay for what we find beautiful. I wouldn't pay $500 for a wrasse but I would for a Clarion or a Gem tang if they were that price :D

I think its awesome. If I didnt have way to many tangs as it is I would buy one. The way I look at it is its a one of a kind. Imagine with these types of tangs no two looks the same. So essentially you would have the only one in the world that looked exactly like it!

LMAO that fish would be in my tank tomorow but I need my new BT to get used to my tank plus they are the same size so I would be pushing it 4 sure.

I've had one of these from the same collectors in Sumatra, but mine has much more of the aberrant color throughout the body... Mine has the blueish gray color on the dorsal and back like a mohawk... the blueish gray from the photo is actually jet black in real life on these fish... only showing up that color under flash in the photo, so it's a very cool looking fish... the body is "bronze"... no other real way to describe it, and it isn't captured in a photo... and mine also has yellow on the tail... I'll get pics later on...

Copps

Greg Scheimer had one a few years back and the color morphed as shown in the two photos... same fish...

This in my mind wins 4 sure!

Wow Manny... that is striking! Where is that image from? Is it doctored? That looks to be a Hawaiian Z. flavescens...
