Option for non-metal hose clamps

So I don't want to put another metal hose clamp on my return pump. On the last tank it rusted out and I don't want it to negatively effect my tank. What are some options that people use? And zip ties are not a legitimate answer. Haha

I use slightly undersized vinyl tubing. Put the end in a pot of boiling water to soften it, jam it on the fitting, then put on a (gasp) ZIP TIE. as it cools, it will shrink down around the fitting.

Just what is wrong with zip ties anyway??? I've been using them for almost 30 years and have never had one fail or rust out on me yet.

Lol, last time I tried a zip tie, it never got tight enough, no matter how hard I tried to get it tight, and it still fell off. Lol, I'll have to give your suggestion a try.

Yeah i like the big thick zip ties as well. You can soften tubing like said or use heat gun to.
Also then pull zip tie with pliers if concerend

I do same as Billdogg, couple minutes in a pot of boiling water, and I use the vinyl hose clamps.
It will not come apart w/out razor blading it off.

I currently have a metal hose clamp that connects my overflow drain to a flexible shop vac type hose, which came with my Eshopps sump. There is a little rust on it, how much can I really hurt a tank if you run carbon?

I do the same. Nothing wrong with zip ties.

depending on what the clamp is made out of it can leave copper in your tank, carbon will not remove copper and can be deadly at low levels to inverts

Thanks everyone. I got some plastic clamps I will be uaing. I might give a zip tie another chance too. Thanks again

I agree. And from my previous experiences, I will try to keep my water metal free!

Just in general, if something leaks underwater, it's not a big deal: I often don't use clamps. I do use a hairdryer: once I've heated a hose and squidged it on securely, it's pretty good. Sometimes, too, you can make a connector out of inside diameter with a 'same' outside diameter sleeved into it. But agreed, return pumps are a pushy beast and will need something to help the hose stay well attached.

+1 on the ty wrap.
You can get them tight as you want if you use good qualty ties (not HD or Lowes) and a genuine ty wrap gun.
