ORA Blue Millie

About 6 months ago I bought an ORA blue millie. Got it from an LFS who got it directly from ORA. It started off blue, then went to a very deep blue purple ...... then all of a sudden in the past couple weeks has turned into what looks like a pink prostrata with blue tips!! Or at least what those are usually labeled as. It still has the bunchy formation of a millie and not a prostrata but the coloration is most definitely red/pink and the tips are deep blue.

Is this usual? Even if thats what these usually look like, it seems strange that the blue seems so natural for months! Here is a pic from a week ago, I'll try to get a current shot this week. Now that I look at it closer the transformation started, now its much more pink.

Definetly odd. I have my ora blue mille close to my lights and IME, the clower it is, the brighter/lighter and intense the blue is. I've never seen mine do what you describe.

The shape of yours is typical of the Scripps mille as is the coloration you are describing. The ORA blue mille is a prostrata and grows in stag form unlike the Scripps. :)

My ORA Blue Mille(Scripps is actually behind it to the left) I think your is a scripps

Here is the scripps from ORA's site

I'm still waiting on my scripps to color up, although, it was never as blue as you're describing...weird.

Fliger, I have an ORA blue milli that looks just like the one in your picture. I'll try to post a picture later today. I do have a different one that's pink with blue tips that branches, so I'm guessing that's a prostrata. I'll try to post pics of that one as well.

My scripps is more a dark purple though.

On another note, I think Pug's blues are intense because he uses the reeflux bulbs which really show the blues.

When I got my Scripps it came in looking just like ORA's picture. You'd have to ask Fishdoc11 [Chris] how he kept it a solid irridescent pink. It really developed super blue tips in my tank while the branches remained pink... the base is green  Go figure... different tanks/lights.

Thanks all. So ORA sells their "own" blue millie AND a scripps millie? So basically it could be either one since all the LFS knows is that he got it from ORA? Either way it certainly is a nice piece but now I want both.

ORA really should consider changing it to prostrata to end the confusion. Here's how it looked in June when I first got it... definitely prostrata IMO

I found a pic of the Scripps from I think July

I got an ORA blue Mille and I knocked the tip of it off when moving stuff in the tank and that piece, I mounted and it turned green. The "mother part" of the frag is still blue.

I have the scripps and I just got a ORA blue millie. How are you sure it is a prostrata?

Is that the 20,000 Leagues Lokani in the 1st pic?

Wow based on that pic I'm sure its the Scripps. Thanks Pluto. Now I know I need the true ORA Blue Millie. :) I also have a "Blue Monster" millie from fragfarmer but he's extremely faded (neglect). Neat coral though.

How do you tell a millie from prostrata? The Blue Monster grows much more branchy. I know how mis-classifications become like a snowball on RC. I always assumed that bunchier ones were usually millies and branchier ones were usually prostratas. Is that totally off-base?
