ORA Hawkins sweet spot ?

Im looking for info on your Hawkins placement flow & lighting. im having trouble finding its happy place. all my info listed below. by far one of my favorite SPS,growth is good but color thats another thing not bad but not what it can be by far...

My biggest hurdle was not a sweetspot. But working on re-dialing in my system after expanding by 200 gallons. I have it in low flow low light and medium flow higher light. And things did not color back up all nice until it got accustomed to the new alk and ca and mg settings.

I think within reason, water parameter settings and water quality changes in either impact this coral to a greater degree than placement.

actually ive had it for a while and all my parameters are right on..my whole tank is doing beautifully...but my hawkins seems to be my problemed child...like i stated its not doing to bad but seems to need something.. Hmmm ?

i have mine 1/2 way up middle moderately high flow under 6 bulb ATI SP which I would think is the perfect spot.. but im thinking it may be getting to much light. what color should it get if i place it low ? i know it's a crap shoot all SPS are different just looking for other experiences.

with sufficient lighting, strong flow, stable parameters, and clean water, everywhere is a sweet spot

I agree and disagree. every coral is different and sometimes can be a little tough finding the right spot sometimes..@ every place is a sweet spot stability wise true, but with a finicky coral not true...like i said all other SPS,clams all good nice PE growth...but the one I really wanna do great has a little murphys law going on w/ it ..Grrrrrrr !!!!!

I ve been dialed in for a while now...i dose two part and very stable.. ahhh Ill figure it out...its funny i see lots of the why threads ??? saying all params good ect. but what we forget like people may not always be happy with a so called perfect environment. sometimes a coral may disagree too... I dunno :hmm3:

mine is up pretty high in the tank under 400w mh lighting. Here is a pic

I have mine on the bottom and it seems to be doing great. My piece, which I got as a small ORA frag, browned out soon after the dip and acclimation process. It stayed brown for a long time, just about when I was about to give up hope on it the blue/green colors started showing up. I did not move it around looking for that sweet spot (I admit I do this with other corals though) it just took time.

Flow is the main important factor. The Hawkins (turaki) can handle different light levels but just have it in some high, alternating flow.

I grew this 12" monster from a small ORA frag under 2 150w phoenix

I grew this pretty large before it just died 1/2 way down with 3 phoenix 250w
just under the pyramid butterfly on the left
